Hey Guys,
Well, John had his official Mazda Digital Rotary Compression Tester at the Ottawa meet, let's hear how you all did.
Engine: '84 12a
Condition: Stock 185,000km
Front Rotor: 7.2, 7.2, 7.2 @ 300rpm
Rear Rotor: 6.8, 6.9, 6.8 @ 285rpm
Diagnosis: Borderline. Expected result from a stock engine with that many kilometres. Landed right on the "minimum compression" line on that graph on the back of the tester. As long as it's lubricated it'll last me until I rebuild it.

BTW, the tester is not mine.
It was loaned to us by Ted, one of the racers Nik and I are helping prepare their GTS series race FD.
So all the props to him.
We are all glad such a cool item could be put to good use.

Ottawa once again a great meet rain or shine. At least on the saturday that I was there.
I knew I should have stayed in bed. I blame Chooks for showing up at the KW meet point. Next thing you know I'm in Ottawa! LOL. I've found some way to get to Ottawa every year for the past 5 years now.
Thanks Will and Stace for hospitality time and time again.
And BTW, I set the cruise on at 120Km/hr and drove the FD home 570KM and it is just touching the E on the fuel gage. Yes that is 600KM per tank on the FD! Woohoo.

yep!@ compression numbers are for posers. My old engine had 12PSI on 1 rotor and 30PSI on the other rotor, aside from being a bitch to start it wasn't down any power.. probably still made 250hp. yay for turbochargers.
-Nik's well broken-in Half Bridge engine was 7.5 or so on both rotors.
-Brianna's car with the j-spec of unknown origin and mileage, was pulling 10's and 9's. Although, the difference between chambers was not ideal.

in theory, if all seals remain intact and no major damage is incurred to the internals, compression will actually INCREASE slightly due to carbon build-up. a lot of piston-bangers actually experience knocking since the increase comp can be significant enough to cause that. don't know if that ever happens with rotaxes...
Just tested my GSL-SE. 128121 miles (204 993 km) original engine.
Front Rotor: 9.4-9.4-9.5 @ 215 rpm
Rear Rotor: 9.8-9.8-9.9 @ 218 rpm
Minimun at those cranking speeds is 5.3.

Nice numbers. I've seen some cars with half that KM pull half those numbers. LOL
