She's [DONE]
10:18 PM. Just got back from the innaugural trip around the block. Idle works, engine works, pretty much everything works. Temp and pressure stayed good.
I put the insurance on today, and tomorrow we should have a trip permit. Just waiting for the stupid vanity plates.
There is lots of little "finish" work to be done, but as of today, it's a running, driving car, and tomorow it hits the road. London on Friday, maybe... MAYBE the meet on sunday, and Ottawa on the 30th. Should be an excellent summer.

What can I say: When I get focused, I'm hard to stop.
Major outstanding items are:
1: Getting the dash lights working
2: When I raise the antenna, it blows a completely unrelated fuse, and the antenna keeps working. Plus, it only started doing it yesterday
3: Installing rear speakers.
4. Getting an alignment
5. I need to make a couple of interior panels, as my first attempts were pretty crappy.
That's the major stuff. I'll be tinkering with it all summer, but don't worry, I'll be out to as many meets as possible.

Are you using a Mazda power antenna? If not then IIRC the antenna on a first gen is wired differently then every other standard power antenna out there.
Hope this helps..
Did you take the beast to work today?

someone once told me that CAW unions frown on anything not domestic. An old co-worker told me when his wife took a senior accounting position at Ford in oakville that the first thing everyone told her was to get rid of her bimmer and get a domestic, else you get singled out and the car may get vandalized. but that was 20 years ago... so things may have changed.

Nope. When we bought the P5, I got a couple of anonymous "I'm gonna kill you", "You're a slant eye lover", and "Better watch your back" letters through inter-office mail.
There is definitely a "DRIVE GM" attitude here. There was even talk of banning non-GM cars from the parking lot, but that changed into reserving the best spots for new GM cars. For the most part, people love the car, and they should. There really is only one good argument for forcing employees to drive GM cars: It is very difficult to convince your friends and neighbours to buy GM when you don't drive one yourself. That's part of the reason we bought the Olds.
As for the antenna, it is a ground signal, rather than a +12volts signal that makes it go up, so there is likely a sneak circut throught the switch ground that is blowing the fuse. Basically, I crossed a wire somewhere. Just gots to figure out where. Of course, my antenna isn't working that well to begin with, so it may just get yanked and have a radio shack one put in.
I'm taking the car out tonight, then I'll probably drive it to work tomorrow.

We're going to be traction limited to 8's this year, but next year we're going for a full tub and some wrinkle-wall slicks, combined with a solid axle, gasser style front end. Should get us into the high sixes.
