Shannonville with SVTOA
Great weekend at Shannonville with the US SVT group. Bunch of Mustangs and Cobras, 3 Lightnings, 2 Maurauders (1 was incredably fast), SVT Focus's, 1 Mazdaspeed Protoge (also very fast) and 1 GX RX7.
Ford brought up a Ford GT (that would be the yellow car in the group shot), and I managed to get 5 very fast laps as a passenger on the Pro track. Incredible car!
Ran Fabi and Nelson on day 1, and the Pro and full track on day 2. Two novice groups, 1 intermediate, and 1 'very fast' group.
Mazda's can attend as we are 'Ford family' cars. Well organized event with about 40 cars and 47 drivers. They cater to all levels of experience, and there were 7 or 8 guys there that were first time on a track. Instructors required for novice group, but available to anyone who wants them. Little expensive, but excellent weekend.
Eight event all summer, but only on in Canada.
Keep it in mind for next year

Go Hard....or Go Home
My good friend was there with his supercharged 89 mustang, which broke an engine on saturday, then he learned another valuable lesson----his tow vehicle is a 2001 F-150 Lightning pickup! He decided to lap that after his mustang broke. Guess what-----------the F-150 broke too!!! Long walk home to Toronto after that happened. DONT RACE YOUR TOW VEHICLE!!!!

Damn you know him too? I was there and I knew he had a P/S leak and I saw him in the Lightning after... Didn't realize that he broke that too. Did he make it home OK?
I'll have to ask him what had happened at the next club meeting.
I'm a member of SVTOA as well, they really are a great group of people. My friends are all on the board of directors and we all have fun...
The party Saturday night was just a blast... Many stories will come out from that!

Oh so you're the guy with the red RX-7! You were at Dunnville last year too. I had been meaning to talk to you both last year and this year but just never had the chance. I was there with my Cobra and Focus.
Glad to see that you had a great time! Looks like we are doing Shannonville again next year and we are talking about doing more track days as well.
The guy with the fast Maurauder also owned the Mazdaspeed Protege as well, in fact the Maurauder was the tow vehicle. He is also a member of the SVTOA Toronto chapter as well. By the way any Ford Family vehicle can join the club.
Did you happen to see that white Vette? Now that was fast. I had a chance to go out in it very late Sunday and that thing blew me away!
Hope to see you next year! Just keep an eye out for the guy in the white Cobra or brown RX-7, that will be me!

Al...heard from Laura that you might show up! Too bad you didn't make it as the weather was great and there was just enough traffice to keep things interesting . My turbocharger developed and oil seal problem and I ended up taking the GX. Tightened up the rear shocks (AGX's...not sure if this helped), and dropped a couple of PSI out of the front tires as you suggested....and most of my understeer disappeared. Not sure if that contributed to the 'air' under the LF tire in the above pix, or I just got a lucky bump. Was your buddy in a burgundy 89 hatchback?
7Heaven.....so your the one with the Cobra and Focus.....sorry man but ther was a dozen of each there, so I'm not sure which one you were....course there was only 1 RX.
Yeah, the Marauder/Protoge was parked across from me in the paddock. Seemed to have a sophisticated camera rig hanging off the rear window of both cars. Love to see those videos.
Saw the white Vette briefly as he blew by me on the back straight...not sure what branch of the "Ford Family" of cars a Vette belongs to.
You know this guy 'Cal' who was there with a red focus? His tranny broke Saturday afternoon...strangest thing... he could only get 1st and 2nd....and those gates were where 3rd and 4th used to be....was wondering how he made out.

Hey guys,
SVTOA Toronto chapter has posted the pictures form the track weekend in Shannonville. Check out the link.

87cncnu... Yeah that's me! Cobra and Focus... And yes there were dozens of each! The Cobra was not there this year... Sad but true...
I want to try to get a copy of the video from the guy with the Marauder/Protege. He is a memeber of the club but I only run into him at track events. Maybe he'll share the tapes!
The white Vette was owned be one of the instuctors. Other non Ford family vehicles are allowed at the track days, they are just not allowed to join the club!
I heard that Cal broke a shift cable. I hope that is all that happened. I have heard of the 6-sp gearboxes in SVT Foci letting go in an expensive way. He was to have the car at the dealer today, I think...
