Sea Foam

I noticed a lot of hype about using Sea Foam on the rotary in the first gen forum. Some even recommended taking the brake booster hose off of the brakes and shoving it into a can of Sea Foam and running through a can or two and then running the car hard until the black smoke turns white (with the brake booster hooked up again of course ).

Does anyone have any insight into this stuff here in Cananda?

sea foam

I used it in my boat just dumping it down the carb, I don't think it did much besides smoke a lot. didn't solve my high end problem anyways.

I have heard from some poeple at work that it works well but have never used it in a rotary or heard of it being used in a rotary.

just V8 so far.

I wouldn't use the brake booster one, but one of the rat's nest vacuum tubes should work fine.

As for finding it in Canada, I've only ever seen it when I was in Ogdensburg NY at the Advance Autoparts (where I get my Purolator PureONE oil filters).

No idea where to source it in CA.

I'm skeptical about it, but I'd try it on my old tired engine since I'll be rebuilding it anyway.

if it's carbon you are removing ..(this I saved from a thread last year)..some guys mentioned(I do not use or have used it)...Marine engine stuff..called Power tune ..under Mercury and Mariner..and Evinrude and Johnson have a product for their engines called Engine Tuner..also there is a Valve Tect petroleum Product called Marine Motor De-Carb....I have been contemplating the "steamclean " method myself..Letting the engine suck a half a gallon of water in through One of the vacuum lines on the throttle body...all this stuff Was mentioned On forum..(take it or leave it sort of info..LOL!)

We got some sea foam in special to try I from on of are suppliers, not sure which one could probably find that out when I get back to work in the spring but I'm fairly sure we have about half a dozen cans left. I think it is a little pricey, around $20 I think don’t quote me on that.

I also believe we have some of the Merc carb cleaner type stuff that may have been mentioned.

If you’re interested you could call Jim at Pride of Muskoka Marine 705-645-9151 to ask about the sea foam. I’ll be home on Friday (Bracebridge) and will check out if the six or so cans is still the case and how much they are.

I picked up the stuff from Carquest, they usually have it. It did seem to make a difference, I ran it through the gas tank, not something huge, but still worthwhile.

Darkfrost, did you have your tank at 1/8 than "drove it like you stole it" as per advice on the first gen forum?

That's where I get mine, you're a little closer than I am

And while you're down there you can pick up a Purolator PureONE oil filter (PL14459 for the 1st gen, dunno about FC) and a 2-4 of american mountain dew.

That's the trip I always make. Throw in a stop at "Price Chopper" for my g/f's low-fat deserts that she likes so much, a friend to accompany you, and a stop for lunch at Burger King and you've got the recepie for one fun Saturday.
