RX-7's on the dyno
Victor at Pacione Automotive called me yesterday late afternoon to ask me if I knew the "RX-7 guys" who were going to his dyno that night. He said they were something to do with Solo 1..........I thought, hey,I know these guys! So after getting our race car ready to go racing Sunday (now its supposed to rain all day!)
we headed down the shop. We drove up and 3 RX-7's were there! I am not going to post who it was, but I am hoping they answer this with the details of their experience. I will say one of the cars produced some awesome numbers and I was glad I was there to see it! ( I actually was the one who drove the cars on the dyno) So keep an eye on this thread and see who answers!

Oh wait, there's Imlogan too. We'll have quite a rotary contingent! Wish I didn't have to wait till July to be able to compete. Rollbar is required for me and O'brien couldn't fit me in until the end of June.
Well, the weather gods have decided that we shouldnt race again! I know if I spend the money on rain tires.........it will never rain on a race weekend until the rain tires I buy are old and like pucks. We might show up next Sunday and run the Solo 1 if we are allowed to, I am not sure about classes, noise rules etc.

I guess we had a little mini meet there.
It was IAN, pd_day, and myself with our white rx7s. Derek was there trying to get a retune on his safc for his bling header he got. It's actually quite scarry as his 90 NA is making more horsepower than a stock 88 T2 is. Good thing I too have mods and he will never be able to take me on a straight line pull. =) You gotta love boost. You should venture into the darkside. You will like it. There is nothing that replaces torque.
I put down 210 rear wheel HP on the mustang dyno. Typically mustang dynos are 10% less than dynojets. Where dyno jets have a weight flywheel and the time it takes for you to accerlate the flywheel to a known rotational speed allows you to calculate the horsepower of your car. The mustang dyno works like a generator where you spin the rollers to a shaft that spins a rotator (spinning magnet) around a stator (windings) to generate a electrical current that the machine measures to see your power output. Work like an alternator almost. Pretty interesting. I've now been on all 3 types of dynos, dynojet, mustang dyno, and water brake dynos. Each has it's advantage and each has it's disadvantage.
I did confirm that my techedge wideband was right on the money for AFR readings comapred the unit that mustang uses. For some reason the mustang AFR meter looks like a repackaged Innovative one? hrm... I'm sure it's the same Bosch LSU sensor, so they all perform the same.
As for my pull. I kinda was hoping for 220 at the wheels, but hte car was too rich. It actually hestitated due to too much fuel. I tried to trim off more and more fuel but ran out of time.
Ian on the other hand put on a good show for all of us. he has the loudest, ugliest car there. Poor ian. I'll let him chime in with his results
Only pic I snapped was Ian and Al trying to blow up Ian's car. I was too busy watching my own dyno pull to snap pics. I too was trying to blow up my 17 year old 211,000 km engine.
Regardless Ian is going to get owned on the track. 1000 horsepower or not, my 210 (corrected) will eat his car alive.

Oooo and good to see all the old timer rx7 guys. I guess after being in the scene for 5 years anyone who still has an rx7 is "old" including I.
Good to see scotty there too. Haven't seen you in ages.
Also that mazdaspeed6 is pretty kick ***. It's actually making me think of consilidating my 89TII and my 03 Legacy Gt for a mazdaspeed6. That is a sweet car. Not too flashy, all go, no filler... masaged by racing beat...
Mazda Loyalty Program: -0.5% off the finance
New Graduate program: -$500 rebate
48 finance @ 0.90% (which with the -0.5% bring it to 0.4%) for 48 years. I think I spend more on coffee in one day than 0.4%
Trunk is big and can fit my mountain bike...
And ofcourse Scarborough Mazda always gives good prices and service...
Mazda.ca pricing is MSRP $36,006.07 incl. the 11 dollar touch of paint pen... I should call and ask what my insurance rate would be on that car.

Not wanting to speak for Ian, but I think his car did 370 at the wheels. So if he did 410 on a Dyno-jet and you have to allow 10%...........I think that would be about 370! You guys are worried about your horsepower, I think you cars weight like 4000lbs or something! These cars have more wiring in the boost which-a-ma-callits than I have in my whole car! Now when you get your cars weights down to 2200lbs............then we can talk about getting owned. (lol)

Nice to see you guys. Seems like I have been out of touch with everybody lately. Been busy to as well.
Yup it seems like each dyno I go to the dyno plots decrease. But my compression appears to be normal.
Thanks to the guys that showed up. Thanks for AL letting go of the throttle at 7300rpm
and his help.
Big thumbs up to the Pacione Automotive for a very promising shop. Don't hesitate to give Vic a call for all of your dyno needs and such or just to see the fabulous cars he has sitting around!
Funny thing on just the wastegate 5psi spring I was ramping to 13psi which was around 340rwhp. I did two pulls at 15psi and I did manage 370ish rwhp. But boost was no were near stable etc.

Nah, just a half cage for now. Thinking about ditching the G35 for a truck and looking for a new house with more garage space. I'm in a townhouse right now so there's no room for a trailer. Getting married next year so it'll have to wait until after that. In the meantime, work on getting as much seat time as I can.
I had a great time there ....
Vic is a cool guy and everyone is pretty helpful and knowledgeable there...
Thanks to Al for running my car on the dyno ... even thou he FORGOT to take the parking brake off on one of the runs .... LOL. Good thing he found out before smoke started pouring out in the rear wheels ...
I am pretty happy with the numbers of my car ...
With my new exhaust combo, I am well above the numbers I got last year on the Dynojet at Splitfire.
I will probably go back there after I do my next mod.
