RHD Japan Import Insurance

Hey Guys,
I was hoping someone could lead me to an insurance company that has experience with RHD Japan imports that don't have the 17 digit VIN number. The companies I've contacted are trying to get me to jump through hoops just to get a simple quote- spend money on an appraisal even before a quote, get copies of every document under the sun that applies to the vehicle yadayada...

I'm having the guy at the dealership look into it for me, but I was wondering if anyone around Ontario has any experience or suggestions.

Thanks,
Andrej

Hey,

I was looking at a 91 GT-X JDM RHD and i got a quote from "Certas Direct" that was pretty good. They asked me quite a few questions but didn't ask for an apraisal before insurance.

I also found out that state farm will insure RHD cars but only if you are an existing client of theirs for a year (may have been 6 months).

Good luck.

getting an aprasial is needed in the end to get anything out of your car god forbid something happens. I had this same issue and the company insuring me now when i called actually said they WOULD NOT inssure imported cars. so i found an insurance broker. they want the commision and will jump through hoops for you. that gets you your basic insurance but if something happens at this point youll get maybe 5k for your car. the apraisal is needed after your have coverage to make sure you get fair market value on your claim. So my advice is dont call insurance companies find insurance brokers cause they don't care what you drive provided they get the commison they will deal with the hoops for you.

Meloche Monex or Co Operators will insure an imported vehicle without a fuss. I havent had any problems with them insuring any of our imported vehicles.

I can vouch for Meloche Monnex too. Absolutely no problems and extremely reasonable .... cheaper then my '96 Chev P/U actually.

I have opted for 1,000,000 liability without collision. Still not sure if I made the right choice. I worry that if (god forbid) the car gets cracked up, they would deem it a right-off anyways.

An appraisal is a good idea and would be interesting though.
