RHD FD's will soon hit our shores...
Back when i was in college, i worked for a moving company. When we had someone from overseas move in, we usually ended up picking up a whole can from the rail yard that was obviously packed somewhere overseas, and likewize when we moved people out of the country, we'd normally pick up and empty container on a flat bed, and once it was full, take it back to the rail yard to be shipped out.
So if you had the whole can, you definately could get it put on rail and get it sent anywhere in canada that way.

^^ Ture and good idea but then you have the mess of getting customs to inspect it (if they dont car is crushed you pay for crushing) and no money back.. it is very very risky... it is alot harder then most people think... i (and friends) have done it a few times and wnat to continue too but it is a new learning experiance everytime we do...
there is so many fees that you get poked up the *** for... just because the companies (and even customs) can. they have the power... and some people you have to deal with (Debbie in particluar) can be a bit of a learning curve to it the first time (me and my partner found the best way
)
as far as the $50 boost fee. your first one is free then after that it is $50, then $15 storage fee adds up (trust me)
Prôdigy

I wasn't saying something about the $50 boost fee, I should've been more clear... I was saying something about the "probably blowing up your computer in the process" part.
I am going to have several vehicles shipped here from japan sometime in the next year I think, and I don't think I'd do RORO - container for me.
If you're concered about the container being mispacked or mishandled, fly to japan and DIY. And privatly insure the entire contents before having it shipped here. I'd half-consider filling the entire container after it's "full" of parts/cars/etc with something to protect the contents, what to use I have no idea. 100's of rolls of TP or something maybe? lol.
That skyline way up in the air was scary looking, I wonder how well they have it attached.

The avenue I have contemplated is basically the container one, except with some input from an automotive importer.
My girlfriend and her parents run a store that sells nicknacks from around the world and she'd given me some good info on container shipping.
Basically - you purchase a conatainer, you pay to ship the ENTIRE thing for a flat fee. Meaning, whether its got one car in it, or its stacked end to end with goods - the price doesn't change. My plan would be to (as mentioned) buy a car through an importer and have it loaded onto said container with anythign else I could fit. Then when the container lands (all of the contents are insured as per an agreement with the container company) have the importer handle the necessary paperwork to get the car registered.
It seems to be the most secure way of shipping a car, that being handling the actual shipping process yourself and finding your own container company.
But they're all pipe dreams for now, too much spending happening on FC's hehe
More than likely Ill end up buying one that some kid has bought, landed, registered, drove and blew up shortly there after for a fraction of the cost

What company will ship the entire container to your door without opening it?
