k.. i dont think i gave enough info. motor is still in the car. i have the front fan off and the shroud, the tmic is off. i have abs. it looks like i im gonna have to take off the intake manifolds, because i cant see squat. like the bolts that hold on the shield for the turbo and stuff. am i missing an all important trick? i am using fc3spro.com as a guide for the porting, but i am reluctant to find any pics of getting the turbo out step by step. 'looks' easy enough. just dont want to take it off to find out i have wrecked something important that costs alot and take 6 weeks to get here!

thanks

Hi there,
Personally i wouldn't bother, i would replace your turbo with a better one,run a 3inch exhaust system, and remove existing computer programe and download a racing programe back in and for good measure throw in a good intercooler and that should lift the car beautifully without the worries of what damage your going to do.

thanks, but that really didnt answer my question. truthfully, if i have the money, i wouldnt even do the work, but until then i am tryin to build up confidence. still workin towards a haltech, so the stock **** stays till i have that figured out. looking at the motor futher, it almost looks easier to pull it out that to strip parts and work my way down.

from what i did, i found that theupper and lower intake have to come off or else you wont be able to get at 2 bolts

you might as well do your intake gaskets, they are cheap and will make taking it off easier in the future

as far as exhaust and DP gasket go, they are expensive metal gaskets. I didnt change my exhaust gasket, and i had recently replaced the DP gasket so it wasnt a big deal.

When you take off the LIM, you might want to get 2 O-rings for the coolant passages, as mine were cracked and i didnt feel comfortable reusing them.

When you do port your wastegate, its a good idea to get a vacuum or some other suction device to keep all the metal shavings out of your turbo, i didn;t but it took quite a while for me to get all that crap out of the turbo, so you might want to learn from my mistake =)

if i remember right, i ended up getting both intake gaskets for under 20 bucks, and the 2 rubber o rings for 2 bucks a pop. I THINK. I replaced my DP studs and they came out to about 6 or 7 bucks each, and i had to replace a turbo mani nut and that was around 3 bucks.

You do not have to take the LIM off.

You need:
2 gaskets for the flexible oil line.
2 gaskets for the non-flexible oil line.
1 gasket for a coolant line.
4 o-rings for the banjo bolts. Mazda does not stock the right part. Once you've taken them off, try going to a fastener store and matching the right peice. Copper is an acceptable substitute.
(I think that's right....)

I like to take the exhaust manifold off with the turbo attached. Some people find they can take the turbo off the manifold and leave the manifold on the block.

Going by memory:
1. Drain and remove the rad and shroud.
2. Remove the air pump.
3. Remove the IC piping or IC.
4. Remove the downpipe off the turbo. (depending on your setup, it might be easier to leave the DP attached and remove exhaust at the back of the DP)
5. Remove the twin scroll acutator.
6. Remove the head shields (if possible)
7. Remove the 2 oil lines and 2 coolant lines to the turbo.
8. Losen the 4 bolts on the manifold to the block.

I think that's everything, someone correct me if I've forgotten something.

snrub, damn!

i have all that stuff off right now, in short of a pair of metal snips to cut off the heat shields, it doesnt look like a hope in hell of getting tools in there! i just spent prolly 4 hours getting the tmic bracket off the drivers side. this is the level im at. in my defence though, i couldnt get the 'alt side' dbl threaded pin out from the tb elbow. made the bolt under tb elbow for the bracket hell to get off.

im gettin there i suppose

ill try, but i have a feelling im gonna go the long way. btw, i think i have a rb 2.5" dp, 8k old, so shouldnt be to bad if i can get it of that way.

A regular wrench should have little trouble getting at the exhaust manifold. Why were you taking the TMIC bracket off the driver's side? I don't know (or remember) what the double threadded pin in the TB elbow is?

um, the three bolts that hold the tb elbow on, they are dbl threaded. unless i completely missed something, you cant get the bracket bolt 'under the tb elbow' off, but the tmic bracket kinda holds the tb elbow in place. anyways just ajusting all the crap in there, throttle plates is why i wanted the eldbow off.

thanks for the help
