re: REPLACEMENT OF ORIGINAL SE FUEL PUMP

Well, I DO apologize if this is not in best section but navigating or searching threads is an exercise in futility.
My car is one-owner '84 SE with about 49K-miles on original pump. I have replaced fuel filter 4 times over past 32 years and none were 'dirty' inside. I am planning an 8-day/2500 mile trip at end of this March and don't want any issues along the way - with failed pump. (stuff happens). So, I figure it's as good a time as any to replace the pump. Not sure of OEM brand but possibly ND?
I have searched a lot of on-line sites and my preferred source is RockAuto. Even with almost 30% 'surcharge' plus shipping, etc., most parts I order from them are a definite bargain. Now, having said all this, I would like to know some members' preferences as far as BRAND of fuel pump. I see several listings - from lowest to highest cost - but, as many of you know, most expensive is not necessarily the best quality. Some popular brands are Spectra, Bosch, Carter, Airtex and Delco. Also fuel filter of choice. What would YOU buy?

Hello? Surely some of you have purchased replacement fuel pumps.

"Why, yes we have - - and please don't call us 'Shirley'!"

To put it another way, are all pumps created equal? - so a $50. part is just as good as a $120. one?
Just hoping for answer soon - so I can go ahead and order something.

Finding an OE replacement pump is much easier than finding a higher flow, performance pump in my experience. There's tons of replica performance pumps floating around compared to OE replacement pumps.

That being said, I've always preferred to stay with manufacturers that also made pumps for OEMs. Such as Denso and Bosch. Sure you might save a few bucks with a cheaper pump but this is your fuel system we're talking about.

Now I have an FC so I'm not sure if it can be done for SA/FB, but I'd also look at rewiring the fuel pump to get power directly from the battery. Mine is wired to get direct battery voltage but controlled by the ECU.
