I am currently running EBC green pads. they are a street brake pad. the initial "bite" i find isn't as good as the stock/OEM Mazda pads, but after that (get them a little warm) they seem quite good. i have used them for autocross also and they seem to have worked fine. they will dust as much as stock but it seems pretty easy to clean.

a popular choice are Hawk HPS pads. they are an aggressive street pad that people also use for light track duty. some people complain about hard to clean dust and noise from them, but i don't think it's too serious.

keep in mind though that the stock pads from Mazda are decent for a daily driver.

I just did my rear brakes 3 days ago. I was metal on metal, and bought NEW (not rebuilt) 2 fenco calipers, 2 new rotors, and new wanger pads.... forget the EXACT name of the wagner bits, but the anti-squeel shims are built right into the friction material mounting plate.....no complaints for noise etc.

My only complaint would be that at 130 mph, they SLOW the car, but as for true stopping power, it's insufficient..... time for cross-drilled/slotted I guess.

Bang for the buck tho, I was happy.

Yea, something like the HPS should be good. I've use the HP+ on the street and it's overkill, skeaky and dusty, so I wouldn't go that far.

Drilled/slotted rotors won't help you stop faster, better pads will. But that's beside the point, don't go that fast, problem solved!

also be sure to properly break-in, or "bed-in", your pads. my car with new pads stopped a lot better after a proper bed-in procedure.

I've got green stuffs on my Protege and HPS's on my RX... kind of.

The greenstuffs are good when cold and great with a little heat. They really work the suspension on the car when bringing it to a hault. ABS rarely invokes, and is easily modulated. I'm even running a slightly taller tire, which should hurt them, but they are still miles above stock (when warmed up).

The HPS's are on the front of the RX right now, and the rears are going in tomorrow, so I can't really review until then.
