Anyone ever had problems insuring their car?
i tried to insure it yesturday and was told it needs to get evaluated before they will insure it, though the previouse owner had it insured and running till the day i bought it without ever doing evaluation. 125$ down the drain.
also i was told by the evaluation guy that since the car is 25 years old i might need to pass technical expection for saaq.
Anyone hear of this?
this one would be a big problem, since i have a rusted frame in one spot.
one last question, where can i get cheapest tires for the car?:P and any scrapyards that have 7s?:P
thanks in advance.

Hello
Its normal that you would be required to do an evaluation if the car is more than 25 years old even if it was insured by the previous owner. I think that they even ask this if its more than 10-15 years. Everyone should do this even if they are not asked if they feel their car is worth more than the book value but they need to send the report to their ins comp. You will be asked to do this every three years. I have a good guy for this but it seems you have already done it.
As for the technical inspection, you will be required to do this only if the car had not been plated before for a period of more than one year. Thus even if you plate it this year and do not do the entire next year the third year you will need to do the mechanical inspection. This is also always required if the car comes from out of province and even if it is a late model car. If you renew a cars plate every year and it falls apart but you continue to renew the plate years after it has come apart this car would not be required to have the mechanical inspection after sold-gotta love quebec. The SAAQ wants to be sure the car is road worthy.
As for your rusted frame, you could always just spray it with undercoating to hide the rust however I don't suggest this. The SAAQ inspection is there to protect you and others on the road. They are not that fussy (at least not the office I have used in St Jean Sur Richeleau) and if they were to advise you that something needed to be done it must really be because the car is not safe to drive.
Don't bother with used cheap tires as if it needs to go for inspection, thats one thing they will pick on. I have heard Merson Tire has good deals, on Saint Jacques but Costco and Wall-mart are always a safe bet.

Thanks for clearing this up.
Guese i'm safe then, since the car was plated by previouse owner and i didn't get asked to go though inspection, just wasn't sure if they could still ask me. Now it's clear.
As for the tires i was wonderin if someone knew better places then Canadian Tire, i have imported rims and tires from USA for my tiburon, but don't have the money(in debt) to do that with this car lol.
I actualy plan to get all the things the person doing evoluation mantioned, but not right away, accept the breaks which is on my priority list.
I think there was a missunderstanding with the way i wrote this so i will rephrase, anyone know any scrapyards in montreal which have rx7 1st gen parts? i need to get some things replaced in the interior as cheaply as possable :P
thanks for the information. I'm less worried now as i already started driving it, and can't see myself stoping due to some rusted frame.

Sorry don't know of any good scrap yards here, I get most of on line. Its like those great US stories I hear about those gold mine parts yards.
As for your frame, I do not know how rusted it is and I don't want to sound like your mother however, you should really have it checked. If its not covered up then get someone to blast of the dirt and loose rusted metal to see what you have. I have a friend that nearly killed him self a few year back when his frame split at the rear due to rust while he was on the highway. Its not worth it.

Hi again,
Thanks for the concern but the frame is not that rusted that it's dangerous to drive it.
I do plan to get it fixed just not right away as i plan to first fix up my daily driver as it needs some miner body work.
Which if weather alowed I will be doing next week as my exams are next week and i will have planty of time to work on the car(s).
Once again, thanks for the concern, and if you want to reach me outside of this forume for any reason you can email me or msn me at igor AT scerbina DOT com

I noticed you Mentioned Tiburon Wheels..they would FIT the Rx7 IF they have the Five bolt Pattern. So,If the Tiburon wheels are "worthy" then Slap them on and get inspected.
