Poutine / Streetmeat in Toronto
Now, whenever I'm up in Toronto I get a hankering for some good streetmeat. Also, since I'm in Canada, I know it's not Montreal, but I do love me some poutine.
For some reason, I have a preference for KFC poutine, then BK poutine. Harvey's is a distant third and McDick's is all the way down there.
Does Wendy's make poutine? Is there any actual poutine in Toronto?
New York has one shop, and although I've never been, I've heard it sucks, bigtime.
All input on best streetmeat stands or poutine shops are appreciated.

I like the BK poutine, which I found odd because I worked at BK for a brief period (total of 9 hours training) and I distinctly remember thinking to myself "ew this is disgusting, who would ever eat this ****".
I was going say I'd never eat McDonalds poutine too, but I remember them having it here in Canada a while ago and I also remember enjoying it very much. Weird.

candian McD's doesn't have the poutine anymore. Harveys is your best bet for it up here. which part of T.O. you going to be in?
if you're right by Union Station, there is one of the best Streetmeat vendors there as far as I'm concirned.

The real trick with poutine is that all the major burger places suck at making it. Find a chip truck, *that* is where you'll get good poutine.
I don't know about Toronto. I usually eat Indian food or Sushi when I'm in Toronto...
If you're ever in around Ottawa, I can show you some awesome places.

Chunky Fries trucks by the convention center downtown Toronto ..... the best... but make sure you don't stuff yourself with them. That can be a little bit dangerous.
For people that know the east end of the city, find a place called Kip's burgers in Pickering (brock & kingston). WOW. They give you enough to feed your whole family. Very good, but again very dangerous if you are not within running distance.....
I know there's more, but I cannot remember them right now cause all I can think about is a Poutine...

My wife's office is on Front street by the dome/convention centre....all good news about that chip truck...
As stated above Front Street outside the convention centre is good. As well as Queen St. oustside Nathan Phillips Square. Both spots have lots of vendors, competitions = greater product.
But if you make it out to the burbs most Canadian Tire Stores now have a permanent chip/dog truck attached to them.
Damn I am hungry.

There's a burger chain called Licks with a few locations, some slightly away from downtown. If you happen to stumble upon one of them or if you Google Licks in Toronto and find a location that might suit you, I'd say their poutine is excellent and worth trying. They're not your typical burger joint and they make awesome burgers. A burger, a couple of poutines followed by a double-scoop in a sugar cone....mmmm....now I'M thinking about food
Does NYC not have streetmeat vendors ??......ive never been to NYC yet.....but figured for suuuure they had them too. That's messed up if you guys don't have them too.
You'll find the best poutine at any of those fries trucks, or a Mom&Pop type family owned burger place.....not the usual chain joints.

They do, but the majority of the hot dogs and hot sausages are boiled.
However, these days, there's a move to having them grilled instead of boiled.
Also, these days, Halal food carts have been taking over as the predominant street food. You can find more places to get Chicken with Rice and Salad and a can of soda for $5 then you'll find hot dog carts.
For really good halal meat, wikipedia: 53rd and 6th.

I was so disappointed when I went to NYC. The hot dogs were boiled... not a big fan of that.. but oh well.
But.... But.... NYC has way more things that we don't have and they definitely make up for it.

For hot dogs in NYC, either go to a nathan's famous, gray's papaya, papaya king, any other sort of papaya juice store that sells hot dogs, or an old fashioned jewish deli. Those are the best places for hot dogs.

I went to the small yellow chip truck outside the convention centre yesterday.......sorely disappointed.....fries and gravy were good, but the cheese was cheddar!!!!!
Really, the only acceptable cheese to me is cheese curds, since I've been spoiled in Quebec. Mozzarella is a passable substitute, while anything else is a no-no.
BLASPHEMY!
I had thought that was the one to go to, but I remember seeing a larger white chunky fries truck to the left of the small yellow chip truck......gotta remember to try that guy next time.
Maybe I'll head to Nathan Phillips Square, but the convention centre is so much closer to my office in Toronto.
I've sampled a bunch of streetmeat (all-beed, german, italian, polish) and I must say, while you get more for your money in the streetmeat stands since the meat is much larger, the taste definitely goes to the new york papaya stores and nathan's stores. It is better than the boiled hot dogs and sausages though, but not the grilled ones from certain new york streetmeat stands.
Any other recommendations for locations?
