Owning an rx7

hi everybody, im obviously new to the thread and i have some questions

i do not own an rx7, but i wish to....
but i've called the insurance company and asked for the insurance for a rx7 (fd3s)

apparently they said they would only support me for the lowest insurance
where the insurance wont cover a lot things, such as someone damaging my car... this is because 1) the car was not sold in canada (or at least its not in their data base) 2) its a car that had issues ( e.g: theft or damage )

i just wanted to ask
what type of insurance do u have on ur rx7
approximately how much is it per month / per year
whats ur insurance company?

plz and thank you

I don't know what it's like in other provinces but in Quebec if the last year that your car's make and model were available is more than 10yrs ago you can only get liability coverage and that's it.

So since the last Canadian rx7 is listed as 1995 model year, as of 2005 they would no longer give full insurance to my 1984GS.

With one exception. If you get the car evaluated at an appraiser that's approved by your insurance company, they will insure its value the same way they would insure the value of anything appraised that way - like jewelery for example. It has to be re-done every couple of years and you really do pay quite a bit of insurance for that privilege. It costs about $350 to get it evaluated.

1- Unless you're talking about a RHD, RX7's were actually sold in canada.
2- do you mean the car you are looking to insure has had issues?

I am with Belair Nordic Insurance and although I havent asked the exact amount, they were able to insure me an RX7 with full coverage.

Insurance

I am with TD insurance and pay about $50.00 per month on a 1988 Rx7.
I am only covered for personal injury and liability for damage to 3rd party.
If I want collision coverage I need a certified appraisal >>then they will give me full coverage for much more $$$s.
The cheapest appraiser that I have found will charge $85-$100 for a written appraisal.

im currently with td.
im not sure about other insurance companies but they kind of treat me like ****.
everythings a hassle, they overcharge me on my vehicles, and they actually got angry at me for paying $15000 for an fd, which they wont put conprehensive on anyways.

So let me get this straight so that I can ask my current insurance company tomorrow. If the car I'm buying is 10 years old or older (15 in my case as I'm looking to import a FD) then I can only be covered for basic coverage?

And if I want to step it up (which I'm planning to) for collision coverage I need get an certified appraisal?

first off thanx for help everybody ... really appriciate it

well i think its what Ace IIB has
I am only covered for personal injury and liability for damage to 3rd party.
where like the insurance is cheap, only because it barely covers anything
and i wouldnt want that because i wouldnt want anything to happen to my car, and then having to pay to fix it....

Ace IIB, i was wondering for the 3rd party insurance, what does it cover or not cover???

and i guess, what im trying to figure out is...if its even possible to get FULL coverage for a 1993 rx7 (FD). And if it is possible, around how much would it cost?
then it all depends on the $$, if im getting a FD right now or not....

btw this is for ontario

as far as i know, it should be possible to get full converage on an fd.
however this will almost certainly require getting an appraisal

Insurance

3rd party means it covers the other guy that I should happen to occur damage with.
(Car Owner > Property Owner > What ever Owner if it has a $$ value to it.)
I have to check if I at least get Comp. for my windows!
My insurance company will no longer provide Collision > Fire > or Theft insurance without an appraisal.
I should have also mentioned a little more information which would obviously affect the $$ for basic insurance.
I insure it by the month and have it stored with 0 insurance to pay on it till spring.
Car is listed as occasional use. Which means no commuting to work every day with it.
Plus I have two other vehicles listed as daily drivers. Married with children.
Also I am not the youngest guy on the forum. 31 American and
51 Canadian.
Clean driving record Helps alot. Driving a 2 door sports car is hard on anyones rates regardless of all other variables.
If I keep mine much longer and spend $$ for paint and new seats,
I will get an appraisal to see if it would be worth while spending the extra $$ to insure it properly.
Good luck in your Rotary Quest.
I hope you have deep pockets!!!

alright thanx alot for all the information guys...really appriciate it
so basically
1. therers no full insurance for an average (or cheap) price
2. and even if there is a cheap price...it will be the 3rd party coverage

sigh...running a nice car is tough

well, I'm in ontario, also with TD, currently covered for 3rd party + fire/theft, no comprehensive though. paying $946/yr in the PEO group, 26 and clean record. Didn't need an appraisal done, may have just been pictures, I can't remember.
