The extra snowfall this week is breaking my heart. I still want to come and take a peek at that space you and your buddies have by the way - be cool to know some rotor folks. But, more importantly, the more the merrier as far as cruising goes!
Also, I get the feeling that other Ottawa people are reading these; just not caring all to much.

Hopefully rain will have cleaned up the city by mid April. That way everyone can fine tune their cars before and get them summer worthy by May. In which case I would push for May 3rd, the first Sunday of the season to have a get together and cruise. I personally don't have any preference for a meeting place (we all have cars right?) but food is usually a good thing meet around.
Anyways, what do you guys think about the date for a first cruise? Once we have a date determined location and routes are cake.

We also do our own rebuilds - the engine is the easy part after it is out.
If you are actually in Oakville - there are plenty of shops in your area.

Hey, just thought I would introduce myself. My names Matt, Im 19, and I live in good ol' Barrhaven (Quite possibly the most dull part of Ottawa). I currently own a turbo'd saab 9-3 but will be selling it within the next 2 months to get an FD for the summer. I've been looking in the areas between Toronto and montreal for one and getting a few good ideas.
Today I went and looked at one at Japan Motor something in the st.laurent area, it was immaculate (http://www.usedottawa.com/classified-ad/6764479), it was gorgeous....I was told he's selling it for 10k, which is a little much for my price range, i know thats a decent deal, especially on a car in that shape, but i was looking for in the 7500-8000 range.
I saw this one (http://www.usedottawa.com/classified-ad/7258895) and thought it was a decent price, i didnt consider body work as a big issue, since me and my dad restore old cars. I've tried to get in contact with the owner, and even drove out to scope it out but no response so far.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any decent fd's for sale around the area that would be worth checking out, or somewhere that might have one.
Looking forward to joining the rotary bloodline! And having some meets this summer!
Cheers,
Matt Rose

You buy this one you take it home then you can under the hood. 800hp in this car" lol 10,000 and i can't see under the hood of what im buying haha. Anyway my 2 cents. Shady those guys. Just dont get excited to quick, you may be making lemonade...

Hahaha that's kind of the feeling i was getting from the guy. Except he let me look under the hood haha. I did notice it had the dual oil coolers too which was nice. The exhaust tip though was a solid like 6 or 7 inches, it was plain rediculous. I was getting the feeling off the guy that he didnt really know what he was talking about. I asked him if it had any aftermarket stuff, and he pointed to the intercooler pipes,"shiny pipes", then point to the intake" high performance intake", then proceeded to explain the bov to me, which looked stupid haha. The car was spotless though eh, and it even had the back seats which I haven't seen alot of. Overall i was just nervous standing around the car though so I didnt want to try anything out.

@MattRose I spent about 1 1/2 years looking for an FD which met my requirements. Time is money too, I didn't want to save a few dollars so I could spend a few months bringing a car, which I had no experience with, back to life. I agree with 10aeRX7 - "deals" like that usually end up with someone making juice.
@RX7RACE That's cool, I'm only spit balling with dates so feel free to suggest what works for you.
@RXCetera Thanks for the tip.
Also, to get a feeling of how social the scene is here, does anyone want this to actually be a recurring meet (i.e. Monthly) - or just a season start type of thing?

I don't want to hang out/cruise with you guys because it will make me change my mind (or at least make me feel really bad) about selling my RX-7, arggggg...
but yeah, I would be up for a meet even if i'm not driving a rotary powered car.

I also hate how they say that "well, it costs me this much to bring it over blah blah blah. They load 4 cars and 30-40engines and that container costs 1200. They are making average of 7k per car, plus depends on engines lets say 1000 ea. thats 28k in cars and say 30k in engines 58k per container. And all there **** is the left over crap from Nagano Japanese in mtl.
Plus in Japan they have yards filled with cars. I did some research, well just looking at www.jdmmontreal.com cars for sale and the engine side of that shop. http://www.jdmskyline.com/JDM_cars/3...tock%20#%20187 this is a perfect looking s13, blacktop, piping body kit, coilovers, etc. Now from there the engine site take a look in the background http://www.japanmotorimport.com/popu...Pics/IMG22.jpg
they just through random **** in cars. i duno just thought i would fill you in.
i cant stress enough if you go to buy one of these JDM 800hp monsters really, really look behind the scene's. there is more than you can shake a stick at.

Yeah that's deffinately one of my main concerns. I'm not looking to buy some jdm 800hp monster though. I'd be so much happier getting a stock jdm if i could find it. It's like the car i own now, you get it, think it's stock, and get under the covers and shes been torn apart. I want something that i know what im doing is done the right way on it. To be honest, i'm all for going to montreal to check cars out for sure, i just though i would look at that car at japan motor inc since it was there, and i've never been that close to an FD before.
I'm glad you went and saw it though becuase i was kinda in aw when i saw it and wasn't thinking with my head. I guess looks can be decieving. Do you think you could explain the egi man thing your talking about, I'm not to familiar with it. Oh and did that car have anything in it like an apexi engine management system or anything? He just told me it was stock but I got the feeling he didnt know what he was talking about
At the moment i don't have the money for the car, until i sell mine anyways, so when i do sell it ill be getting up to montreal for a real car hunting adventure.
My dads 2 best friends actually race an fd, so they'll be doing all my tuning and stuff which keeps me at ease. Atleast until I know exaclty what i'm dealing with. Heres there car, Sorry the clip is so short...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSgMl...eature=related
Just curious too, did you by any chance see if there was a red supra in the back on the shop? I never got around to the other side.
Thanks for all the input!
Cheers,
Matt

I did some quick surfing, and this car here caught my eye. Ideally this would be what I would be buying, Aslong as its what it says it is you know, stock.

yeh those guys import really clean cars. i havent seen any cars in there that have been molested at all. if you were to buy from anywhere i would go see them. a buddy bought a super mint 180sx with less than 34000 km. actually had that many clicks.
i made a mistake in my original post, it was jdmskyline not jdm montreal. but yeh really clean. i was up in mtl about 3 weeks ago. That fd is very clean. i would still do a comp test though.

Interested in meeting any other 1st gens in the Ottawa area. My interest is in clean/restored stock or mild mods...
The good 1st gens have the potential to become as valued as 240s.

Bringing my FD out of storage on Wednesday. I can't wait... to drive it from shop to shop. But, still, if the weekend weather repeats itself I know what my plans are going to be.
