ON open up my exhaust

Hi all,
I have a 3" turbo back exhaust system and an electronic boost controller.

My question:
Is it safe for my motor and turbo if I remove my cat converter? Is there any safety precaution/s I should do?

A catalytic converter is mainly for emissions purposes. It helps to completely burn, unburnt fuel from combustion.

Removing it will also lower your exhaust backpressure, which is only a good thing on a turbo car.

Lowering exhaust backpressures can also increase the amount of air the motor ingests at a given boost level due to the porting overlap. Higher backpressures may keep air from entering the motor and when a cat is removed it now enters.

Do you have a wideband? If you do you can take it off and see if there is a change in AFR. If there isn't, your good to go, if there is, you may need to get it tweaked.

When I took off my Racing Beat dual-tip and put a canister muffler, I noticed my top-end needed more fuel. I made a thread about it...

Remember that if you got tuned with the cat, and take it off. you most likely will need another tune/more fuel.

Also remember right now the emission police are giving tickets left right and center.

Buddy got one $ 500 first ticket, second one is $ 5000 and car towed away.

So make sure its worth the extra $$ for that better response and hp.

Option can be an electronic cut out before the cat.

If you have a 1986, I know you are not obligated to "pass"a road side Etest. But they will definilty give you a very hard visual overlook to make sure all the stock system is there, and or most of it.

Wonder if they included my huge 3" inlet/4" outlet magnaflow muffler in there. The Rx-4 is excessively loud and smokes.....

It's illegal for sure, But much less chances of being caught than going catless !.
