Ontario Safety Certification question

So the heat in my '86 that's for sale doesn't work right now, could be the heater core, most likely the logicon. In any case...does the HEAT have to work to pass safety? The fans turn on, and the rear defrost works, the fans just don't kick out any heat. Thanks a lot guys...a sale could be pending on this very point.

I just did a quick search and found this:

http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/DBLaws/R...h/900611_e.htm

Electrical section 5.(3)

The heating and defrosting system shall be inspected and tested and,

(a) the heating system shall function as intended;

(b) the visible portions of the hoses and piping for the interior heaters routed within the occupant compartment shall not be abraded, cracked or leaking; and

(c) the defrosting system shall deliver heated air to the windshield and, where fitted, to the side windows to the left and right of the driver's seat.

Of course I'm not sure how picky a shop would be about it...

Sorry Rick..IT Does matter..I used to work in a garage for a Couple years.The Thing is you Could get away with not Having the Heater looked at,BUT it all boils down to WHO did the Safety Inspection.If the car is pulled over and the defroster is found Inoperable,and the cops decide to Get Into it.Then you will have a Problem.The Mechanic could Face a Fine for putting an UNSAFE car on the Road...Because the Driver's view would be "obstructed" by the FOG on the windshield...As you said.A small shop would be better(getting it fixed would be Best)

Yeah, don't get me wrong guys, I'm all about driving a fully functional vehicle, its just that if it doesn't need to work, I'm not going to worry about it.
