OK! I can't keep silent anymore!

I may have missed it, but if not, I can't believe that no one has said anything yet!!

Have you noticed the commercial for the new Eclipse? "it commands respect" where the cars all stop when the Eclipse comes around and then they bow down to it.

If you actually watch it, the first car that the Eclipse encounters is a FD! Now I know that the Eclipse has 260ish hp and blah, blah, blah...but I don't give a flying $#%*!@. The 7 bows to no vehicle and no one!!!!!

Just my 2 cents.

Someone else mentioned the commercial to me but I always see the short version.

I went to look at the new eclipse at the dealers and I have to say that they used some creative photography in the ads since the car is ugly as sin in person.

I saw the commercial for the first time last night and when I saw that FD bow I shouted out "What the %&$@!!!", my wife looked at me like I was nuts. I told her the same thing, that FD bows to no other car, the eclipse should be bowing it's head to the FD!!

Crazy.

I've seen it. I think it's smart marketing on Mitsubishi's part, they know how revered the FD is in tuner/sports car circles so they use that to create a buzz. Negative publicity is still publicity.

Ya i saw that but thought i'd get flamed with "repost" if i mentioned it.

Anyway...thats probably the gayest commercial i've ever seen...and that gotdamn eclipse engine will probably blow up faster than the fd engine anyway.

edit: I took the liberty of "borrowing" the link of that gif for u guys: http://www.gothamracing.com/pics/Bro...lipselaugh.gif

I agree the 7 doesn't bow down to anything short of a supercar, especially the new eclipse. It does look good in the comercials (the eclipse too, lol), but I don't have a local mitsu show room to see one in person, so I'll take your guy's word on it that its fugly.

There's no way that the eclipse is faster than an FD in any way. Judging by the way it looks, it probably weighs somewhere around 3300-3400 lb, and with only 5-10 more horsepower than an FD, it can't be faster in either handling or acceleration. The engine is even quite big for a V6 at 3.8 liters I think. In the other commercial with the tribal theme, it shows the engine and I think it says 3.8L on it.

what i don't understand though is in the "Drum" comercial is shows the engine turning over with the cylinder head removed, and there is an opening on the side of the cylinder. I'm asuuming the head with cover this openign but what the puspose of it?

Mitsubishi will be out of Canada within a year.

Dealers are turining on the manufacturer for overpromising and underdelivering.

3 major GTA Mitsubishi Dealers closed thier doors this Summer. Another in Windsor, and I know of another that the owner wants out of in the Niagara area.

The New Eclipse is pretty powerful, but all it will ever be is a "sporty coupe" with fwd and not a true sports car.

Yeah I thought the same thing when I saw this commercial. "What the ****?". The FD is probably faster stock and it made its debut, what, twelve years ago? I really doubt such a car would ever consider bowing down to an Eclipse, especially just because it has a new body style and a little bit more horse... on a heavy body as usual =P

This came up before in a thread about 7's being abused/spotted on tv:
https://www.rx7club.com/canadian-forum-42/rx-7s-mistreated-tv-455630/

My take is pretty much as I said at that time. Have seen the new Eclipse up close, and its a pretty good looking car from a rear or rear 3/4 view. The front, like most Mitsubishi's, looks like they contracted designers from Pontiac - busy, heavy, incoherent, even though the basic shape is good.
As far as even a stock FD bowing to it, not a chance. The Mitsu has roughly equivalent horsepower and a bit more torque, but outweighs the FD by an easy 900 pounds, and it is quite front heavy (61/39 f/r), so those front tires are being asked to carry a lot of weight and transfer a lot of power, so please mommy, don't make it try to turn too!
I've driven both stock and modded 1st gen Talon TSI AWD's (putting out about 195hp stock, 260 modded), and even the first gen Eclipse/Talon doesn't have any reason to respect the new Eclipse. Its a powerful, soft GT car, not a proper sports car. More the likes of the mid-to-late 80's Supra and 300zx - or a Ford T-Bird
Easy to see why they chose the FD in the commercial tho'; has supercar looks, but no one would have believed a Porsche or Ferrari bowing to the Mitsu, and outside of the performance community, a lot of people don't recognize it as a Mazda at first glance.

I drove a new eclispe. Pretty beefy low end from that Huge V6. Doesnt compare to the FD because of 2 inherent design flaws. 1, it weighs alot and you can tell. 2, Its FRONT WHEEL DRIVE!!!!!!

RX-7's bow to NO car.

Makes me remember when the Magnum came up and it killed a lambo or something like that and than the guy asked him what you've got in there and he shouts an amp, a guitar, 8 4X4 etc... yeah right...

These car ads are laughable and can only impress a certain market, and I guess that's the market they're aiming at. It's marketing baby

Some people are just impressed by the idea I guess rather than the facts. Its amazing the ignorance of people who don't know any better.......well, I guess if they did know better than they wouldn't be ignorant would they?

Does that make any sense? lol
