BC Newby with a couple questions

Really enjoy the forum, hoping to learn something. I have an '85 GSL with an auto trans. is there any identification on the car (ie vin#) that show it as an auto tranny car? The reason I'm asking is i have access to the bits to swap to a 5 speed but don't want to mess with the originality of the car. i love the car but am not a big fan of the auto trans. Thanks in advance, Cheers, Dave

So what is the other question (you said a couple)? J/king

The VIN number "may" show what type of transmission that was installed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle...tifier_Section). I am not too sure if Mazda did that.

Wait..the car is 25 years old and you don't want to screw with the originality of the car.But you want to swap the car from Auto to Standard?
Just Putting on a Different set of Tires in My book qualifies as "screwing with the Originality of the car"!..So,really,I would say just Screw the VIN and GO for IT!..Put a STICK in that Beotch and Shift Till ya drop!.At least all the 5 speed parts would be "new" and you wouldn't have to rely on a 25 year old Automatic "Obsolete" Transmission!
Have fun regardless though, and Welcome to the Forum!

This is nothing to do with your question but with your sig "Corvairdave". Corvair, do you have one?
Pics? Ralph Nader's Unsafe at Any Speed have not seen one for awhile. And welcome to the obsession.

It's likely that the car was always auto. No one in their right mind would swap an automatic transmission into an RX-7.

Yes, i've got 3 corvairs. a'66 Corsa, a '63 spyder coupe and my baby a '65 Corsa coupe with a Crown conversion SBC in the back seat. That's the one I really should be working on, but this RX7 is definitely distracting me! Cheers, Dave
