New Year Fresh Start

Every time there is a new year, I always feel rejuvenated and ready to rock and roll. I take a look at the past year, see what happened and try to make things better for the next year. 2014 was an extremely interesting year for me personally and it looks like 2015 will be even more exciting in many, many more ways.

On the racing side, we are going to be looking at dipping our toes into the Canadian Touring Car Championship with the Cougar. This is Canada's only ASN/FIA Sanctioned racing series and its at a pretty high level. We already have the car and equipment, we just need to get the finances settled. If all goes well, we should have 2 cars running in that series in a few races in the Super Touring Class. I have also been extremely fortunate to have developed a relationship with a South American company that manufactures race tires. If we can get the right tires for the cars, we will be running 3 cars in the CASC GT Challenge Series and getting our butts whipped. In the GS Class you can run on race slicks, but we are down about 100 hp on the fast guys in the class so we will need to do our best.

Finally, we will be running all 3 of the new GT Superseries races at Shannonville with the CTCC and at TMP during their 2 pro race weekends. This is going to be a lot of fun as the races are just a blast with little stress and lots of good clean fun. I hope to see a few of you guys out at these events as well either in the races or in the Time Attacks.

I have lots of other really great fun things happening at home, so I am really looking forward to the year.

I want to also try to help out anyone on this site who wants to either go racing or enter the time attack events at the GT Superseries events. I am working on getting you guys a special pricing setup for these tires. They are a very6 good tire with tons of grip. There are also a wide variety of sizes available so there should be fitments for almost every car and situation. The only caveat is that these are racing slicks only and not at all legal for street use. As soon as I get things in place, I will be able to fill you in on the details.

That's what I have going on, so I was wondering what plans you guys have for 2015 that don't relate to sticking parts on your cars? Anyone doing the Dragon this year? The Wilmington Mile top speed run with the East Coast Timing Association? Entering some car shows? I just want to hear that people are trying something new this year and not being boring. Life is too short to waste, besides this site has gotten boring lately.

See, this is what I mean. 257 views and nobody has any cool plans for the upcoming year. Either RX7 owners are sooooo broke trying to keep these things going or as a group, we are too boring to do anything cool. I can't believe that no one is doing anything fun. Nobody is going to start lapping days or Time Attack or take a trip across Canada or down Route 66 with their cars. Nobody is going to enter their cars for the first time in a car show or try drifting or even rallycross.

Maybe we are all just apathetic and don't want to plan anything ahead of time.

Shaking head and tsk tsking....

I wish I could say I'll be doing something exciting, but with buying a house I'm left pretty broke. Ill be doing good just to get the engine rebuilt and back in the rx4 this season. Hopefully next year I can make it back down to dgrr. This year with fuel prices it would be a cheap trip.

I hope to be out this year but I've been saying this for a few years. Right now its a few things. Kids, money, time, mutual funds but hey with the gas price should try a few time attacks for sure.

So must concentrate. Finish car have it tuned and have a few fun events!

Went to my first and only lapping session in 2013 and that was a lot of fun. Hoping to do more of that this year!

Trying to think of DGRR2015 cause I've never been and it seems awesome!

Can you send me some info on that GT Superseries event? Dunno if it's for me but it sounds cool.

Ahhh! Too be young again, House Broke is part of getting older. Either no time or no money! Even with no debt to speak of, I still have to work part-time for both my mental health and to pay for my car fetishes. Will not go to DGRR this year either, just because of the shitty date, but will head down in late May just to get my Dragon fix and to do the some Blues in Tennessee. Now with only one rotary to deal with in my life, it should be a lot easier. Like I said in other threads the 7 can wait.

This is a ton better. I knew all of you guys weren't boring. I totally get the new house, no money. I had to walk away from my Pro Suzuki ride back in the 90's because I knew I needed to earn some real money to provide a house for my wife and myself. When you put your family first, you have my respect.

If you guys still want to be involved, let me know as we will be doing some cool things this year and we may be able to add some excitement to your year.

I'd like to do some cool car stuff, but I teach at a community college - so it's not like big bucks were rolling my way to begin with, and government cuts have led to big cuts in programs - meaning less work, and less pay for me. I'm going to be lucky if I can spring for a new set of tires for the Canadian Autoslalom Championship, being hosted locally by the Calgary Sports Car Club, and I will definitely need a new clutch, I was starting to notice some slipping getting going on hills, just before I parked the car for the winter at the start of November. There is a thread on modifying the stock ECU to give modern features such as programming and data-logging, a la RTek, and relatively on the cheap, which would be a cool project, and still fit within the requirements of my class (modifying the ECU is allowed, but not standalones). Oh, and I have a LSD diff waiting to get rebuilt and swapped into the car.

Dang, I wish you were closer to me. I could try to see what I can do for tires for you. Could you PM me with the sizes you need and if you could run a racing tire in your class? Not an R Compound, but something like a Conti Slick? I will see what I can do anyways. Might be nothing, but I can try.

Regarding the rest, good luck, but at least they are not to pricey. Sorry to hear about the Gubmint cuts to programs, that always hurts when things are out of your control.

What size of tires do you require?

Thanks both for the offers. I'm competing in Street Touring, which restricts me to legit(ish) street tires, not even R-comps, and also restricts size - 225 section width (225/45r16 are ideal, 225/50 will do in a pinch). I currently have a set of Direzza ZIIs that might well last to nationals, but will certainly be a bit tired by that point, no pun intended (the legit-ish comment stems from the fact the Dunlops, like other competitive street-tire class tires such as the Hankook R-S3, Toyo R1-R, and General Rival are more akin to the old Toyo RA-1 than anything that most people would choose for street use). I expect I'll manage alright, I may find other work (although with oil prices in the dumper, I suspect it'll be a bit of a hard year in Alberta generally), or maybe it'll be an exceptionally good year for my wife. i will have to keep my ear to the ground in the classifieds, in case anyone's selling a good NA clutch cheap because they went turbo or some such.

I wanna get the teg into that GT super series(for which I will be calling you...but things have just been crazy hectic lately), but like every other year, it's just a matter of actually finishing the car & getting it out for some test & tune. Still haven't figured out the spongey brakes (gonna change the master & see what happens...all calipers are freshly rebuilt), and something seemed weird with the steering last time I drove her...so I'll have to figure that out. Got a Defi advance ZD unit that worked for a bit, after which it seems the main unit died...so I'll need a new one of those. Need to properly bolt in the cage, finish up the rear fire wall, secure the hatch & create more wing support & I'm sure some other odds & ends that I can't currently think of. I guess it's not THAT far off...just seems that way with how long it's taken to get this far. So hopefully we'll finally show our faces at the track this year! We should also be bringing out an R32 GT-R & a V8 (VH45) powered S14 240sx that we have been building for the past while. The GT-R should have close to 500awhp . Fingers crossed...this year could be great for us.

I also at some point need to put my 1st gen rx7 together...but I just haven't had any time for her. Hopefully I can at least get her goin this year.

I'm just trying to finish up my 7. I had the engine out to do some work, replace the clutch and flywheel, and also fit up a single turbo. Between kids and work, it's tough to get stuff done in the garage. It doesn't help that it's this cold out too.

As of right now, the engine's back in the car, suspension is in, turbo is attached, i'm just at the stage of putting in the fuel system, and then it's v-mount, piping, and exhaust. Hopefully i can get it done this spring! After that, a nice conservative tune, hopefully a pass on the e-test, and then lapping, auto slalom, and whatever other fun i can find and afford.
