Steering lock interfering? Wiggle the steering wheel as you turn the switch. Other than that, some lubrication may help. Can't be much else IMHO.

igniton

doesnt seem to be steering lock ... and junior just broke his key off trying to get the igniton to turn.

any other suggestions? is this the kind of work a general mechanic/garage could tackle?

any ideas what a new igniton column would be worth?

try lubricating the lock.

if that fails, bring it to a locksmith.

it will be much cheaper then buying a new steering column, which you probably don't need.

It would either be related to the locking mechanism or steering lock itself, and not the ignition switch. The accual ignition switch is just a plastic peice that turns easily.

I would lubricate. If all else fails, a cant imagine a mechanic not being able to diagnose the problem at the very least.

Spray some jigaloo, or any graphite lubricant in there. While you're at it, hit the door locks and the hinges too.
