New kid with rotary oh no!
Hey guys, I just stubled on to the forum in a search for parts and thought I'd introduce myself. Im Colin from Pembroke Ontario, 18yrs old and just bought my rotary monster.
This is my second tuning platform, so I'd like to say I'm not new to the game but only to the car. That in mind I'd like to cut in to my beloved rex and do my first tune up. She is a '90 but not in too bad of shape.
So tune up questions it is:
What oil would you recomend I was thinking Royal Purple XPR 5w 30?!
Tanny fluid I was again going with Royal Purple
Going to flush the rad and add Prestone is that a suitable replacement?
It already has a cone filter installed so I will make sure it's a K+N
Plugs and wires? NGK iridiums with Magnecores from corksport ok?
What else is there that should be part of routine maintenance that I've missed?
She will have a Optima and new tires aswell. the previous owner just did the brakes, so I will be double checking those.
Thanks for the info guys, I will keep searching before I speek don't worry lol

Congrats on the purchase!
Everything you said is pretty good except for the engine oil...
1) Rotarys and synethic oil arent to be used together. The engine is meant to burn oil, and that stuff isnt meant to burn.. Stick to regular Castrol gtx or similar
2) 5w30 is a bit thin... Most people (myself included) run 20w50. Then again, mine is only a summer car. 5w30 is good for the winter.

- Oil: Castrol GTX (or equivalent) 20w50 usually, if it's a little cooler out 10w30
- Oil Filter: NAPA Gold
- Transmission: Redline MT-90 or Lucas Oil Synthetic gear oil
- Coolant: Prestone is fine, 70% water/30% coolant works good (50/50 if it's below freezing outside), you can add Redline Water Wetter too
Spark plugs the normal NGK that you get from the dealer are fine.
Make sure the brakes check out, and it wouldn't hurt to probably bleed them (go with the standard Ford DOT fluid you find at Canadian Tire).
I would recommend taking the whole intake manifold off and apart and clean it out (especially the 6pi and VDI areas), and replacing all the vacuum lines.
A proper TPS and timing adjustment is always a good idea also. Hope that helps.
I lived through grades 6-12 in Pembroke, and my folks still live there. I've never seen another FC around those parts. Good luck with the car.

Just one thing about your recommendation of the Lucas Oil Synthetic Gear Oil coldfire...I actually read that the Lucas (both as an oil and as an additive) traps a lot of oxygen, and ends up causing more friction & heat, therefore killing the tranny quicker. So your probably better off with the Redline. Good luck with your beast, I'm hoping to be buying my first FC very soon
