new here, from sask, canada looking to purchase a RX7 ...

hey guys im new to this forum. i currently own a 2000 honda civic si-r, and a 2001 honda s2000. im 22 and im lookg into purchasing a 3rd gen RX7, i noticed there are a few diff types of rx7s the r1, r2, touring - which has the sunroof, allways a nice feature. anyways could you guys help me out on what the best deal of rx7 would be the specs etc. i know they are a high maintenace car but have very high potential for tuning..

Any kinda of information would be much appreciated, im a honda guy myself and dont know to much about the mazda life.

Thanks ~ Nick

There was a guy in lloyd selling a v8 FC.

The only 2 FD's (3rd gens) i've seen for sale in Sk in the last 2 years was an *** ugly, Wings wested, purple FD in Regina that just dropped off autotrader in the last 2 weeks, after being on there for well over a year. The other was a 93 base model owned by a 18 y.o. who couldn't afford to even fix the brakes.

Don't buy either of the ones for sale in B.C. on autotrader, the old bcrx7.com would have supplied enough horror stories from "miracle auto" to scare anyone off. Unfortunaley that website is now defunct and the new "bcrotary.com" has nothing about them on it yet. They've also been for sale for over a year.

The models for the 93 were the base, touring and R1

Base has cloth seats, no sunroof -- you probably could get teh sunroof as an option, I think i've seen bases with sunroofs.

Touring had leather seats, and sunroof, and possibly the bose sound system, and a rear wiper.

The r1 had stiffer suspension, dual oil coolers, and a red front strut bar, also had sweude seats (always look bad/dirty in pictures, but are nice in person, it's the light).

Canada, had the pleasure having a "25th anniversary edition" in stead of the R1, i think. They're pretty rare because i don't think the states got them. They were an r1, that had cruise control, and the floor mats were embroidered with a "25th anniversary edition"

In 94' the Touring became known as the P.E.P, at least in the states.

and the R1 became the R2, and i think the only change was a bit less stiff suspension.

hey thanks buddy, yea that purple one is in regina, i took it for a test drive last year ... the paint is garbage and the interior everything is busted from door handles to guages so right away i was turned off, so basically the best rx7 would be the R2 ? .. i wouldnt even mind bringing one up from the states if there is a good deal.

another thing.. what would i wanna do for the first mod, i heard the cooling is bad from the factory so sould i look for aftermarket rad ? what else should i look at doing ? i like doing suspension and wheels first b4 anything agree ? sorry guys im just not to familiar with the FD ?

It was definitely a 25th anniversary model. I believe it was the 25th anniversary of Mazda's presence in Canada.

Here're some pics of a 25th anniversary. I believe it was more or less an R1, with some touring components thrown in.

Yah, that's the ticket.

Wow, i can't even imagine what one of those would be worth, IF you could find one.

There are probably what, like 50-100 of them originally?

i have the touring edition. i like it best because they come fully loaded. the R1 and R2 are basicaly a base model with dual oil coolers and stiffer suspension and a R1 lip on the front bumper. mine is a 93 but i like the 94, 95's interior better. the interior panels on the 93 have a coting on them that always peels, the 94's and 95's have a different texture on the interior panels.

The one in the picture was the only one I've ever seen in person, and it was the tightest sports car I've ever ridden in. Not a squeak or a rattle anywhere. Unfortunately, my ex let the wrong person drive it, and he wrote it off with her in the passenger seat. He missed a corner on the highway near Penticton and hit a truck that was parked at the side of a highway. If the owner of the truck hadn't have decided to stop in that particular spot to pick wild flowers, they would've gone off an 80 metre cliff.

I guess so. I have a picture from the newspaper somewhere. It shows a firefighter cradling her head as the other firemen cut the car from around her. She was in the hospital for a long time.

Scary stuff -- never been in a bad accident myself. Turned into traffic a week after getting my license, got a bit of a nudge, that's it.

I guess it goes to show that as great as any sports car can handle or tires can hold, you always have to respect the destructive power just inches away at any time.

I've never been in a bad accident either, largely because I pick my spots. (The first person here to say I drive like Miss Daisy gets a poke in the eye. I'm talking to you, EdV)

Yep, Sean picks his spots well when he wants to go fast. If I remember correctly his first choice is with a joystick in his hand (and no kleenex, that would be the other Sean) sitting in front of his big screen with the stereo turned up.
