In Need Of A Teacher
Well Im in need of someone to teach me how to do rotary porting. I have just done a teardown of my S5 six port because a friend of mine told me he would teach me how to do a extended port on it. However unfortunantly hes to busy teaching so he doesnt have time to show me, but he is still willing to do it for me. Unfortunently that kinda defeats the point of me tearing this thing apart. I did it so that I can learn how to port it, it's not going into another 7 any time soon so actually having it done isn't what im lookin forward too. So basically I'm looking for someone who is willing to teach me, I dont have alot of cash but I can pay who ever is willing. Also this week is my college's reading week so I can be availible all week, any time. Finnally I have all three irons and both housings with me at home ready to go, and if needed i can get my rotors, eccentric shaft, housing gears, or whatever else is needed in a day to get this done. So please if anyone can teach me it'll make my day. Im not a dumbass, Im 21, 2 months away from finishing my 2 year autotech programme, and I'v worked in the buisnes for a few years. Right now all I want to do now is learn how to port, weather is be street, extended, bridge, or what ever. I just want to learn but no one seems to want to teach, so if anyone knows someone or can help in any way please speak up. Oh yeah I live in Etobicoke it's on the west end of Toronto but I can travel to where ever needed as long as it's not hours away. Thanks.

Firstly, I should say that I can't port to save my life. Hate the noise and metal filings. That said, I've watched it done on many occassions. Below is what I would do if I were in your shoes:
1. I would read every thread/article/book on porting.
2. View as many pics as you can from the various forums.
3. Based on your reading acquire the necessary tools.
4. Get some trashed housings and irons that nobody wants. (Put an add in the FS/WTB section)
5. Buy or borrow templates from someone
6. Go nuts on one of your unusable irons or housings
7. Take your first attempt to a reputable builder and ask them to critique it. (If you came to me after doing the above I would take you seriously and want to help you)
8. Repeat step 7 till you think you are ready for the real thing.
Don't worry about those that shoot you down. I am sure you will find someone that is not threatened by your thirst for knowledge.
Good luck

Judge ito on nopistons has pretty aggressive templates, and is the Re amemia of the N/A rotary world. he even has articles about porting in the engine building forum. porting isn't some mystic trade that everyone makes it out to be, and as long as you dont eat the wall, and use a template, you should need minimal help.
