My new RX-7

I finally found her... she's a 1993 Montego Blue basic package with mods. Some of you might recognizer her, because the previous owner took her out on the track.

Yes, those are RX-8 rims. I'm looking forward to bringing her to the next meeting.

Yes, it's Gerry's old car. He obviously took incredibly good care of her, and I will too.

I'm going to call him later and ask him about the car. The dealer gave me a list of the performance parts, but I don't know enough about the tuning details other than that the engine was rebuilt at Rotary Dynamics and that it was also worked on at Mazdee's.

I guess I was pretty eager to get into her – I'm not 100% sure that it's still a sequential setup...

If it is a working sequential it is easy to tell just by the response. If you step on the gas does it spool up immediately or does it take it abit?

When I had my bnr sequential twins they would be at 14psi after 300rpm increase (5th gear).

I've only drove in 1 car that was non sequential and it was not my cup of tea. I understand why people do it but if I wanted to give up the lightning quick response then I would choose a single turbo. Similar response with much more room on the top end.

Congrats on the car she looks nice

Response seems pretty quick, but I was just tooling around on quiet suburban streets on the test drive – I brought it up to maybe 5,000-something RPM in second and third gears. Didn't want to hit random kids or cats jumping out from behind parked cars... I was too busy keeping my eyes on the road to check the boost gauge.

Here's a pic of the engine bay:

With it in 3rd gear drive around 1500 rpm and step on it. Working sequential will boost right awa and the car will pull pretty hard. You should feel it transition as the second turbo comes online around 4500rpm and carries all the way up.

Also if it is sequential it the boost should look like 10-8-10. The dip down to 8psi will be around the transition.

Non sequential will take longer to kick in say around 3000, and will feel more linear in power.

Car looks clean! Bring it to the bcm meet this weekend and cruise with some other rx7's

Thanks. I plan to take her around to the local meets and events once everything is settled.

From reading the forums so far, I know I've got a lot to learn.

That's perfect. I skipped looking at a lot of single-turbo FD3S in the last few months and this one has been tuned nicely, I think.

Regarding the Bruce County Meet: I'm going to have to miss this one. There's an important family event this weekend, so I'll look forward to the next event. I'm really going to miss meeting the guys and driving on those roads, though.

Congrats on the purchase!

I looked at the car too ... the only thing the raised a flag is an oil leak around the transmission area.

Get that checked out and it should be good!

Thanks – I missed that! I'll be sure to mention that to the dealership tomorrow. I just paid a lot of money three weeks ago to fix an oil leak in the transmission seals of my current car.

I'm really looking forward to meeting you guys.

ON Happy to join the gang of RX-7 experts!!

Looking like you are in good hands, HiWire. I can see TONS of fun coming your way with so much support.

And thewird...YOU ROCK! My best guess is that you probably tuned it for Gerry and now HiWire will take her to the limits and make you proud....a day at a time!

Is that right, HiWire?

Anyways, congrats again HiWire. Guess at the very least, CS13B and hiwird will take care of you. One does your final tune-ups and repairs before you take delivery...the other tuned up this baby to what it is today....for Gerry and now to you, HiWire!

BTW, I heard you are selling your RX-7, isn't that right? I read on the other thread that you tried to offer the 21 year old who brought the Mazda3 SkyActiv your car?

So exciting to see this car in person once it is all done!!

It's going to be a long and enjoyable first drive. We'll finally discover what kind of mileage to expect from a turbo rotary with loose nuts behind the wheel.

Long and winding road, indeed.

Make sure the route has some gas stations along the way
