Wow, thats a ton of work. I am just trying to understand what you are going to accomplish with the cutaway. I understand the effects on a car with side tunnels and the need to release high velocity air from the underside (which is why most people do the cutaway). What are you going to do with the front aero to charge the rear opening?

Not trying to dump on it, but unless you have high velicity air traveling from the front to enter the mouth of the diffuser and the diffuser starts somewhere ahead of the diff, a 12 degree gradient of the diffuser (maximum angle that the airflow will stay attached) doesn't lead to the need for this in a standard tub car. What are you doing with the fuel tank to clear this area as well?

The reason why I am asking this, is that I looked at doing some of these things to my pig and realized very quickly that if you took the back edge of the diff as a starting point and grew the diffuser by a maximum of 12 degrees, the biggest issue is the fuel tank, spare tire well and the bottom of the rear fascia, not the sides of the chassis. And to get enough high velocity air to the mouth of the diffuser I would need to flat bottom the floor of the car and raise the noise and enclose the bottom of the engine compartment to provide enough air and keep the speed up. I am wondering if I am missing something?

So my plan for this winter was to look for ways to minimize drag. I am going to drop the nose a little lower, add effective turning vanes to roll the air and side skirtlets, seal off the back of the car behind the diff and add a small diffuser to get more effective extraction of air from underneath the car. My concern is to allow air to cool the diff and tranny enough as well, so I may need to run coolers finally.

I just want to try to understand what you are doing as its a ton of work!

Hey Eric all great questions and concerns regarding the rear wheel drag cut outs, for fuel set up I am placing the fuel cell half of the hatch floor and through the floor with a low style drop in tub, I am currently cutting out the rear spare well making it flat!! I will also be cutting the frame behind the rear strut towers tubbing it and making the whole floor flat!.

My front spliter will be attached to the diebond flat underhang surface across the whole car no breathers for tranny nor diff dont need if I am only doing 3 to 5 laps! The flat unhang surface will tie in with the dual step rear diffuser inorder to recieve the high velocity of wind to go through both upper level diffuser and lower level rear diffuser aswell I have did alot of research on wings and diffuser tieing in togeather making a rear vacuum behind the tale of the car will suck out exes heat from brakes and tires, I have a drawn diag of what I have designed I might post it depending on if I still want changes to the angles of fins that are part of the diffusers and wheel box diffusers!! I wish I had a wind tunnel to design a kit/ shape of a chassis with no lift!! No lift = no additional down force needed!!!

Im typing all this on my phone from work haha so if something dose not make sence my apologies will correct it once I get home!!

Best regards Patrick Burdon

hmmm.. not sure I agree with this. I'd first test how hot the fluid gets after a hot-lap or two. That straight at TMP gets you going pretty quick and there are lots of small radius turns for your diff to get action.

Pat, are you going to the super lap finals in Cali? To watch I mean.

http://www.globaltimeattack.com/even...battle-finals/

Let me know, I wish I could get away to see this event in person. I'm curious to see how their event is run on the ground floor of things. Some of those cars are super fast with lots of $$ into them. It'd be an experience that's for sure.

Well see buddy, I will deffently have a therm gauge on the tranny and diff to monitor to see what the temps range to and how hot it is in time attack mode!! If to hot back to the drawing bored!!

Hey guys huge update..

So the red shell iv been working on was a total loss... when I flipped her upside down on the rotisery didnt look so bad because of the crazy amount of undercoating... when I started taking it off I was so mad.. finding huge patches of crazy amount of rust huge... cars floor was repatched on both sides from rocker to floor...from the front of the floor to the back... the a pillars where rusted pretty bad to a point it was seperated... bottom of b pillars connected to the floor where crapped.. so I said to my self this is not worth fixing nor caging this shell... so I saw hai nhats clean shell for sale I, saw photos checked it before buying ( on spot) and said this is the one.. so picked it for an amazing price (thanks buddy) and started working hard and crazy at it, because the shell needs to be ready for my chassis cage for jan 11 2014 at rally race.. here are all the photos of the red fc and my new white fc..! the picture with my old fc slammed on the rims is just a bare chassis and was having alittle fun with it before scrap!!

Update on white fc cleaned the whole floor not a spec of **** on it wire brushed, torch and scrapper and some elbo grease and then primered it to make it look purdy and clean!! Saturday or sunday shes going on the rotisery and going crazy at it will keep you guys posted!! stay tuned for more

Hey guys, well its been a crazy couple months with the fc, work and etc but here is finally a big update!!

So I pretty much finished cleaning all the seam glue off, all the tar and undercoating from under the chassis and inside the cabin!!, found a few small pin holes but filled them, after that was time to put her on the ground and take her to her next home which is rally race were my cage is being done!!.

Me and Ryan at RallyRace have been talking back and forth on how the cage should be designed for maximum stiffness and safety with the least amount of weight!!!, and so we figured it out!!,

So I put her back on the rotisery at RallyRace and let ryan do his thing he started by stitching the whole underneath and cabin area!!. After that he made the base platea for the B pillar main hope and left it at that for now, we are thinking about removing 60% of the inside skeleton for maximizing the cage room but we are still doing research and going back and forth!!,

Dont mind all that surface rust under the car I stopped at a local coin opp and power washed all the salt and dirt of the car but its okay whips off with a touch of a finger!!

Also I have purchased an 04 sti as a DD finally no more broken *** golf tdi.. so its been a crazy past few months!!

Thanks guys

Pat.

Hey guys I got a sweet update for yall!!,

So Ryan at rally race has begun the cage and let me tell you guys its A++++ work this man is very **** about fia rules, bending, welding, and test fitting before he makes it permanent!!, right now Ryan has started making the back portion of the cage and tacking it and doing some fine adjustments and wow wicked work, im very happy that I gave him my clean fc chassis to him so he can work his magic!!.

Alright so whats going on, main hoop is done, x brace done, back stands done, top hats finished for the towers for more strength, lat support, and the V bar in the back. now the next part is the A pillar boxs, and the main stands from the hoop to the boxs, dash bar, dash angle bar on passenger side, door bars and then through fire wall bars!!!, I will be doing a front end tube frame and rear end aswell but thats after the car is off the rotisery and back on the ground!!

Stay tuned for more of my time attscl FC build!
