My "cowl flap"

I just built this for my car, inspired by the seasonally adjustable cowl flaps found on aircraft. This way I can leave it closed for ground clearance, and when on a track day I can open it up for more airflow. Even when closed it provides a smoother surface than the stock undertray and closes the gap between the bottom of oil cooler and the undertray.

We'll see how well it works this summer. Too bad summer is never coming, it's snowing here in Sudbury.

heh, that's cool. it'd be interesting to see what the temp differences would be with it down vs. up.
maybe you can even market this.

wow, good idea!

I wonder how it will hold up to 200+km/h winds though, hopefully fine... how thick is the aluminum you used?

It's been tested to 140km/h. It's not just aluminum; It's the stock undertray pan lined with roof flashing aluminum(very thin stuff). For the part that opens I just cut into the stock undertray pan, it's quite flexible. Also i can vary the opening amount to suit the cooling needs.

Hehe you definately have to be careful with it open around curbs/speedbumps etc. That's why i made it adjustable so i can close it in the city.
