My beef with Cross-Border Shipping
My beef with Atkins rotary is there unbelieveable shipping price. I wanted to buy a master rebuild kit from them and they wanted to charge me $69 to ship it to canada then on top of that im gonna have to pay a brokerage fee and duties its crazy. The worst part is that the package is only 3 pounds....so i asked them to ship usps but they refused to I even have a place in the states I can ship to but it needs to go usps and they wont ...... and the only reason they charge so much is because there making money off of it ridiculous what has the world come to when you rip people off on shipping

Dont get pissed at them because of the shipping.
They have LOST alot of money shipping USPS and stuff getting lost.
The transfer from USPS to Canada post takes off alot of liability, and the tracking system is not the best.
They are probably charging UPS worldwide , wich already has customs included. If not then see if they will upgrade you to UPS worldwide ( its usually double the price ) , but includes customs and all other "charges" .
Same with FEDEX "air"

as stated with the post right above you.
the $ 65 is not just for the shipping, its including the brokerage fee.
UPS just over boarder is $ 40 brokerage now, plus GST/PST and duty if any.
If Bwek only payed $ 7 on top they thats golden.
I know it hurts to pay more ahead of time with the shipping process, but its ALWAYS cheaper than paying when they are at the door.
So don't worry about the $$ right now, as they are probably doing you a favour. ( by including brokerage )

I just "attempted" to ship a strut tower bar using UPS
They tried to deliver to my house while I was at work. I didn't bother reading the shipping attempted notices, figured after they tried a few times they'd hold it at the UPS store for me to pick up, so I'll just find out where after and pick it up.
After the third attempt, because I wasn't home for them to collect the COD (which HAS to be exact change btw) instead of sending the package to the UPS store for me to pick up, they AUTOMATICALLY RETURNED THE PACKAGE TO THE SENDER
W.T.F.
So I contacted the seller and had it re-shipped using USPS, got it in a week, picked it up at the post office after work. No brokerage, no tax, no customs, no friggen hassle. Costed me $23 to reship using USPS which was pretty much how much brokerage UPS wanted to charge me ($21). The bar was $49.99 btw.

we know usps is the best option normally, but when vendors get burnt enough times, they stop shipping usps. And proceed with FEDEX or UPS.
That being said, when shipping with UPS dont do ground shipping, go for AIR .
What happened to you is unfortunate, but It is your fault. It states clearly that after third attempt its shipped back to shipper ( unless you call them to have them drop it of at the UPS store ).

If you can get a few parts together, then ship them all to a US mailbox store, and drive to Niagara Falls.
I like to use can-am mailboxes. Their storage charge is by weight. They charged me $10 for recieve and store my rims for a week.
Make a day trip out of it, and to a little shopping there, and come back with your parts.

Living in near Thunder Bay, there is a border store called Ryden's. I think they will hold a package there for you for up to 90 days, for $2.00. I think if it is over 90 days, they charge an extra dollar. Just make sure you have an invoice when you try and bring your stuff back into Canada...

Atkins is willing to use different shipping methods for buyers they know, but a new customer ordering a big ticket item will get shipped by their default method. It is safer for them and the buyer.
Shipping stuff can be a real bitch sometimes. Once you have relationship with a vendor, they are generally open to different shipping methods if you call them.

It's because of the G20...
at least, that's what the media would tell you right now.
and 6k / year is nothing. Engineering at UOIT = $10,000 + books + commuting in an rx-7 = broke rx-7 owner heard that story somewhere before?

what is the deal with over the border shipping rates, why is it so expensive anyway? ebay for example sellers, often offer free shipping to the states. but to come over the border its a ridiculous amount. and dont get me started on brokerage. wtf is with that. who is getting rich off it...i assume its the government????

brokerage is an add-on fee that the shipping companies charge you for bringing your package through customs. Sometimes it's not much, but i bought a downpipe that was shipped UPS from the states, and I paid probably half the value of the item in brokerage and duties when it arrived at my door. USPS is again the cheapest way, but yeah, it's not always the most reliable.

Black Dragon has been pretty good to me over th past couple of years. I've been buying parts using a Canadian credit card and having them shipped to my sister in Boston. Some companies won't do this if the shipping and CC addresses aren't the same. She comes back to Canada a couple of times a year and brings the parts with her thus avoiding the duty and brokerage fees. I guess I'm lucky in this respect. However, I'm sure if rims, flywheels or hoods started arriving in Boston she'd start cutting off my supply chain.
