My ALMS Tires

I picked up some ALMS tires from some guy locally. He picked them up from behind the DB9 trailer this year at Mosport. 2 tires are Michelin 270s and 2 are Dunlop 340s. They take a 18" rim, but I measured and surprisingly the overall diameter is ~25.2"and ~25.6" respectively. There is a little tread left too, although more so on the 340s.

I'm looking for suggestions, what should I do with them? Obviously the 340s won't fit under a normal RX-7, but I suspect the 270s would sort of fit in the rear.

Initially I was thinking of doing something ornamental, but I think it would be incredibly cool to try them out somehow, even if it wasn't me.

What you do is:

A) Purchase a used wheel from the team: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=250332020679

B) Have a piece of glass cut to the outter diameter of the wheel (and safety edged)

C) Place glass on wheel (where your girlfriend or wife will let you keep it)

and voila... a coffee table that is a neat conversation piece and has racing history.

I've got one.

Make them into a wine rack.

Seal them up with clear coat and use some big self-tappers to secure them to the wall. Then find one of those shelving inserts to subdivide them into wine bottle shaped holes.

Sub-woofer enclosure for your home stereo?

Obviously the sub would be enclosed in some other sort of round box that would be inserted into the tires.

Giant stools? ha

As to Jason's point - No girlfriend so no problem with what I decide to do with it.

Wine rack? You know I don't drink wine.

Sub woofer... I kinda like that idea and I actually need one for my stereo. Stupid question - what's involved in building one?

You don't need to drink wine to take advantage of the esthetic beauty of a well crafted win rack filled with vintages!

A subwoofer enclosure isn't too hard to make. Decide on a driver and then check it's specs to determine how much of a chamber it needs. Build said chamber in a circle with a face place cut out to fit the inner diameter of the tire. Use thick MDF and seal all the joints. Stuff with insulation and wire the speaker.
