Definitely interested, seems like a well organized event. I'll look into it when I come back from Chicago this weekend.

Thumbs up

Sounds like a very interesting day and very well run. If I was a Mosport newbie I would definitely look into doing this event. Way to go to the organisers for putting on a first class event.

I won't be able to run the day, though it would be fun, as I plan on running the 3 Hour Enduro in the RX7 over the Victoria Day Weekend and if the whole Cougar thing works out, the CCTCC event as well.

Both cars will be used up by that date and needing some TLC before the next event.

Sign up now before it gets filled up.

Eric,
Thanks for the kind words. The small track events last season went quite well. This is the first big track and I want to make sure that it's both fun and safe for everyone. I can't respond via PM as my post count is too low. Good luck with your race season!

Just an observation after reading about your requirements: The reason we stopped teching cars years ago was based on advice from a civil lawyer. He warned us that by teching a car WE were stating that the car was safe for the track, and should a mechanical problem occur, WE were looking at possible legal actions against us that no waiver would protect us from. He also started that by our "coaches or instructors" stating someone was "safe" or authorized to drive on the track we again were accepting full liability. This was back in the mid 1990's and I would imagine things are much worse now. If you look at most lapping day that require some kind of tech inspection, it is usually done by a licensed mechanic off site from the track. We as a group way back when required the DRIVER to sign a florm stating HIS/HER car was safe for track use and they were competent to drive. Just my 2 cents worth.

I've got a few questions.

I've never been to any race tracks to race before, and I've only done one AutoX, nothing to really learn much from would I still be able to get in? I'd really like to learn about it all but I guess I'll need a coach to keep me in line and teach me the ins and outs.

Also about the brake fluid. Mine hasen't been filled up yet and should be fine for that 90 day period requirement, but what exactly is that there for? And how do they even go on about testing it?

These are great points and raise what is one of my main concerns, and that is that we have a safe day in which everyone has fun and goes home happy. I'm sure that we'd probably get different comments from every different lawyer we spoke with. What I'm trying to do is ensure that I'm taking every possible safety precaution - yet not certifying that any car is safe, that is the driver's obligation. However, if a car is obviously unsafe ... The coaches are also to ensure that driver's are familiar with the track and not that they are safe to be on the track.
Please email me. I'd be happy to chat more.

I appreciate your interest, but this event would not be appropriate for you. Get invovled with a performance driving school before heading out to the GP track.

Before entering a track you should ensure your car, and especially your brakes, are in excellent shape. Your day would be spoiled to be out with poor brakes. You will be asked about it, there is not a track-side test.
Thanks for the questions.

PS - with 3366 posts and the description of your car, I'm wondering if you're giving me the whole picture of your driving skills.

What i have in my sig is actually not up to date. I have since then done ITB's with megasquirt, New crossmember with a quick ratio (15:1) rack and pinion instead of recirculating ball, Exaust redone with a second muffler, wideband O2 (Innovate), EGT guages, so the the car is more or less track ready. Its not like I'm tring to enter a totaly stock and try to race. I'm actually trying to build this car for that purpose, race tracks. But no point spending more money on the car now as its a good base (or atleast I think so) and more on me learning how to drive better.

I was thinking about going to a couple driver training programs though:

BMW one in toronto
Cayuga Raceway

The thing I would like about the cayuga raceway one is that I would get to use my own car which would be nice. Any other recommendations?

As far as braking that is one of my next steps to improve on, but will be costly as I plan on doing The T2 rx7 brake upgrade, but changing bolt pattern mean new wheels and rubbers also. And for that I'm looking at the BBS RG-F 15x7 and weight about 10.5lb per wheel.

So ya not really a newb I understand all the theories and stuff. and brielfly know about some of the markers on the race track, but would be nice to have someone go over everything.

He runs a program at Toronto Motorsports Park. I have been to a couple of his days and I really like his program.

Ian Law runs programs that also use your own car. http://www.carcontrolschool.com/index.html

Both of these are easy distance from London.

Most likely true regarding differing legal opinions. At the '06 WCMA AGM (Western Canada Motorsports Association, the equivalent regional sanctioning body to CASC-OR), we were advised by our legal council that we should conduct basic tech inspections, which some clubs and disciplines had ceased doing in favour of driver's self-certifying their cars, precisely for fears of increased assumed liability if something did go wrong.

The reasoning was that failing to inspect at all could be taken as a abdication of responsibility that had more potential to increase liability exposure - as well as increase the chances of a problem actually occurring. Which I think makes sense - for example, I've seen an experienced and knowledgeable competitor show up without their battery secured (no tie-downs) - we all make mistakes, and having another set of sceptical eyes check your work before taking to the track can catch some obvious ones that a driver or team may miss.

Good points, Greg. Any chance you'll drive in from Alberta for our day?

Bottom line is we all want to have a safe day.

Ha! I would love to - we are seriously hurting for track facilities out here - there's nothing of the caliber of Mosport or Calabogie on the prairies, I'm afraid. We can't even find a decent piece of pavement for autocross, and our track, while not a terrible layout, doesn't match the terrain, width, or setting (bald prairie next to a landfill!), and is falling apart besides. I don't think the wife would buy in to me taking a week to drive across the country to do it though.

Completely understandable. My better half sometimes loses patience with me and my car!

Smile Another RX-7 joining up

Another RX-7 in process of signing up - but I don't think they're on this forum. There will only be 4 experienced spots left once this is firmed up; 14 advanced. The weather's even looking good for track days right now.
