Lost Power
My 1982 RX7 with a 13B 6 street ported has been running very nicely for a lot of years.
I let my car sit for about 3 weeks, got in this morning to take it out for a Sunday spin and it sounded terrible. I limped to the highway and ran it for about half an hour. It had absolutely no power what so ever. After running it on the hwy at 100km per hour for about 20 minutes all of a sudden the power kicked in and it was back to normal. What gives?
I let sit for most of the day and went to drive it at around 5 pm and it did the same thing as this morning. I took it out to the hwy and this time it wouldn't do what it did last time. The power didn't kick in. I thought it might be bad fuel.
There's no obvious reason for it to stay so bad. It's runs only if i hold down the accelerator. I come to a stop and it quits.
Anyone, please, can you give me suggestions as to what to do. I'm at a real loss.
Thanks

I'd check the obvious stuff first, like fuel filter, plugs, wires. If that doesn't turn anything up, I'd try a compression test to see where the engine is at. It's always a good feeling to be able to cross that one off of the list. Is your 6 port still fuel injected or did you swap a carb on it?

I have a twin 44 Mikuni side draft setup ( no fuel injection ). I have a feeling it might be the spark plugs. I have a new set to put in so i'll do that first. I haven't done any rebuild on the carb since it was installed, which has been a lot of years - about 15 years. I guess i shold do a rebuild on the carb as well. The fuel filter looks good and clear and did pull that out and check it.
I'll see what I can do and then post my results. Thanks guys.

Well I changed the plugs and the wires but that didn't fix the problem. My ignition setup is quite different. I took the car to Jackson's Autosport in Windsor Park and left the car there yesterday afternoon. They called me back and said come get the car. They opened the hood and was totally stumped. Now my understanding is that these guys are well experienced with RX7s. They refused to work on the car without a wiring diagram. It was obvious to me that they didn't know much about MSD Digital Ignition boxes or the MSD Coils or the entire Ignition setup. What a disappointment. Won't be taking my car there, ever.
Anyway after thinking things out I think the problem lies with the ignition boxes. My setup comprises of 2 MSD digital ignition 6-AL boxes running to 2 MSD Blaster Coils and into the Dristibutor with only 3 wires. Pretty weird setup but it ran beautifully. I noticed one of the MSD Digital ignition boxes the red led light is blinking and the other box the red led is on without blinking. I think one of the boxes has crapped out. Now I have to find where to purchase the MSD digital ignition 6Al boxes. Anyone know, please let me know.
Thanks all.
