My cousin drove his 1987 Turbo II from Toronto to Vancouver one summer a few years back. Only Mods were the Complete RB Exhaust, FCD and a K&N Filter in the air-box. Everything else was factory. Car had 265,000kms on it when he started the trip. Original motor.

Im planning the same thing in my PP 86' when its done in the spring.

28hrs straight driving from Vancouver to Winnipeg when I first purchased the car(1993 fd), and Back to Vancouver for a two week holiday from Winnipeg and back home all straight drives no breaks only for gas which was every 400kms and cost me around 800 dollars.
The car ran fast and smooth the hole time, I think I put on about 25,000kms that summer

No intercontenental trips for me, but I've done around 2000km round trip. I think a track day has to be a lot harder on the car than a long highway trip.

Good point track days would definetly be much harder than highway drivin, im thinkin of drivin to Boston in the spring. Before it gets too hot. no intercooler yet.

Did Winnipeg to Banff / Jasper / Edmonton / Calgary / Winnipeg in the 3rd gen.

Mods as listed.

No problems.

Awesome car on the highway, was a beast in the mountains Passing was NOT an issue.

Averaged 28 mpg With the 75 L tank, lots of cruising range

No tickets.

V1 saved me 5 or 6 times that trip.

I have all of you beat so far.

In December 1994 I drove my rusty '82 GX from Vancouver to Woodstock, N.B. via the Trans Canada, and then back to Vancouver (in January) via the New England states and Cornwall, Ont.

The trip to NB took 4 days and 10 tanks of gas. The return trip took only three days--- because my ignition switch crapped out just east of Thunder Bay (after hours) and I didn't dare to shut the engine off until I reached the next large city during business hours. This turned out to be Winnipeg. There I was able to have the ignition hot-wired since no switches were available in that city.

The entire trip each way took 56 hours of actual driving time. Even though the distance was shorter as the eagle flies, cutting through the states on the return saved me no time because the routes were zig-zagging and on secondary roads, often with lower speed limits.

Other than the ignition switch fiasco the car held up just fine. I'd do it again in another 1st gen no questions asked.

Last year I took a spin that lasted 3 weeks and 10,061km...but alas it was in the minivan.
The FD has tripped Calgary-Saskatoon and Calgary-Edm. I find that my kidneys hurt after a few hour driving the FD. Also, I find that I get tired faster, simply because I have be much more alert driving that car!

Yeah, I keep hearing the same complaint from others in the Metamucil set.

Oh yeah, and notice that this time I'm not whoring about my 1600th post...

the farthest our rotary death missle ever gets is from Brampton/missisauga area to the scarbourough wrecking yard (standard auto parts) on free parts days..
maybe 60km
but you better believe its just as hard on the car as a track day is... this is free parts day!

went from calgary ab to prince george bc. 906 kms one way, 7 1/2 hours! took 10 hours on the way back though. smoebody decided to plow througfh a fifth wheel around banff. longest traffic jam i ever saw!. also my 10ae saw a little over 500kms a tank! i was very impressed. considering every time i came up behind somebody id have to do a 6000rpm pass filled up in jasper on the way there and the one gas station in the middle of the park on the way back. i think the worst though was the ice fields, about half hour before you see them wife and i hit a freak snowing. not fun when its plus 30c for 95% of the trip.

I drove 900km, all in Vancouver, hahah. Never left the city. Car was great, minus the inactivation of the 5th and 6 ports. I'm going to attempt a Vancouver - Calgary run in my car around the end of Jan maybe

so far my trips have been Calgary-Winnipeg....Winnipeg-Saskatoon Return...

If my repairs go as planned...My Bro in Law is taking his 91 Miata and I'll be in my 88 Vert and drivin to Vegas....Now that will be worth every penny of gas I burn....

I'm just trying to figure out why anyone would want to go to Woodstock....nothing there but a pair of moose humping each other J/K....I grew up in a town just southwest of there...McAdam.
