Life with a dogmission...

This might just be the best mod ... I just have to learn how to drive it now...
Here is where I botched the gear shift, and blew the intercooler piping apart, its hell on the motor mounts.. Definetly have to add a motor brace and solid motor mounts...
http://bdc.genxracing.com/MaxT/DSCF0004.AVI

Heres where I sort of get the hang of it, light accelaration about 9 psi, I have added a lightweight clutch and flywheel to, an os giken twin plate, unspung..
Here I am not using the clutch at all, I just ease off a tad bit and yank the lever..
It definitley makes the car faster, but its not for the faint of heart, you gotta drive like mario all the time.... But man its fun... ...Max

The dogmission is an interesting beast that's for sure. It was without a doubt the most insane car I've ever gotten the pleasure to ride in. All the pains of installing the dam thing were forgotten when it shifted from 1st to 2nd. I had a smile from ear to ear. That's going to be one fast car.

a dogmission is a tranny with straight cut gears, rather then the helical cut ones on the normal transmission ,becuase they are straight they can go into gear much easier because the angles don't have to mesh, and it is noticably noisier, that whistling in the car is the tranny.

It is a Dog'd Tooth Gear Transmission allowing you to shift without the clutch without eating your transmission appart it can hold alot more power, and is fairly tricky to get used to but when you are running big power your stocker is going to start sounding more and more like a vacume cleaner as you ratch your Synchros and bearrings... this is the next best thing... it can handle the power.

So in using this transmission, you can shift without the clutch?

you can, but you can also use the clutch too. i have a dogmission in a Drift car im driving for a shop. its not easy to shift with no clutch but when theres like 300 -400 to the wheel hp. transmissions break like no tomorrow so i still use the clutch a lot still

I think tower brace to the top of the motor would stop the motor from twisting so much, with the way this thing shocks the drivetrain, I think solid mounts would eventually break if left by themselves.. I run 275/40/17s in the rear, and every shift they break free, thats alot of energy getting fed back through the mounts, after a few more runs last night, and taking the machine grocery shopping, I noticed my rear hatch doesnt close properly now, I guess its time for a cage to stiffen it up a little more..
I am using the clutch still quite a bit around town, under power it seems to like being cluthless, if you rev out to 8 grand, the shifts are pretty good without the clutch... But yeah it whirrs like a blender all the time, even in 6 th it drowns out everything else in the car..max

I noticed you're a/f ratios are a little conservative. I'd gladly drive for you while you tune, Max. (It's because I care...)

The dogmission is pretty crazy. Sounds like a sequential shifter bike outside of the car when flying through the gears....sounds so unreal. The clanking and transmission noises are hard to listen to though as I keep thinking that a gear will come flying out of the car.

I still think you need better vids though at 640x480 taken with my digicam........I will glady volunteer to take some

Better vids? I have a DVD-Camcorder that records in High Definition.

On another note, I'd like to mention that Im very very good at driving without a clutch. I've been behind the wheel of a Tractor-Trailer for about 5 years. Driving these requires no clutch. Took me about 2 years to stop grinding gears and now its second nature.

Can't wait to see it on the dyno max, you bringing it by glenmore park?

Yah your cam does take better vids, maybe this weeked I will use your photographic services.. The digicam just doesnt however capture the sound to give the full experience, the movie clips are actually far quieter than what it is in the car..
I think the camera only does Avi but I will check..
Alak, I have driven a semitruck before, believe it or not, I found the semitruck easier to drive than this thing..Max

I assume that means you're taking your car out this weekend. Which day? I'm going to try to take a spin on Sunday before Mother's Day dinner. Maybe I'll head out your way.

Mothers day sunday? I should know that, thats terrible... Yeah should be around, probably working on my roof...
Yeah the gears are shorter, also you dont drop out of boost between shifts, because you dont unload the motor, there is ZERO turbo lag, kinda fun with a T51...Max

I have to be honest; I didn't really see the merit of a dogmission until you pointed out the lack of turbo lag. Remind me to bring some Depends to the next meet in case I get a chance for a ride-along.

I took Grace out for a spin today. I put a brand new battery in her, and she started right up with no problems.

I hit a snag with the dogmission... Looks like a bearing inside piled up, with the oil contaminated with metal, the rear seal let go, and it blew it its oil on the way home last night, its locked in a gear right now, I am gonna pull it out this week, put the stocker back in for a little bit, looks like I learn how to rebuild dog missions this week.. I was told they have to be overhauled alot, I guess they were right.... ah well , so goes the price of speed..max

Damn, that sucks, Just had the thing out and already busted.. at least you can just throw the stocker back in so you can still enjoy the car.
