Justice for my Rx!

Justice for my Rx!
Well, this summer has been quite a pain for my car. Since April, our street has been in a constant state of demolition and upheaval - as you can see.
Everyday I'd creep along our gravel/pitted/rocky/dirty street and park in my driveway. Over the summer the condition of the road seemed to worsen. Big holes such as the one above were covered at night with giant metal plates - which were ultimately the source of my problems!
I had parked my car at night and everything was fine. Overnight it rained and the road was reduced to a Amazon-like Trail as you can see in the pic below. I had to leave the house for work, so driving on the road was necessary.
Apparantly a couple of those aforementionned metal plates were placed incorectly, causing one end to stick up into the air - only it was covered by mud! As I unknowingly drove over it, the edge caught the flanges of my Y-Pipe and Mufflers, ripping them apart like a can opener. The left muffler was torn off the car and the right side resembled the front of the Titanic. I was pissed. even though it was a Dynomax System with many summers of wear on it - I didn't want to have it replaced yet!
I drove it over to the local Speedy Muffler and had them write me up an estimate for the damage. The result was that my system was unrepairable. The estimate included the replacement of the Dynomax Y-Pipe and Both Mufflers. The final Talley? $1,059.00.
Not being made of money I took the shredded system off and put on my old worn out stock system for the meantime. I then took a bunch of pics of the damage and the street and along with a lengthy letter sent them and a copy of the estimate in to the City Of Ottawa Claims Department. They then informed me that they were not at fault for such damage. It was indeed the construction company who were at fault. The City of Ottawa then forwarded the claim to the Construction company. I figured all was lost.
Imagine my surprise then when I recieve a call from that company apologizing - telling me that my claim was being processed, and that the company would be issuing me a cheque for the damage! Sure enough this week there was a nice cheque for $1,059 in my mailbox! Rotary Justice!
So, now I get to go exhaust shopping; Racing Beat here I come!
It's nice to know that there are companies who still take responsability, and make things right in a timely fasion. I was impressed.

Wild street.
It seems like nowadays everyone is out to screw everyone else. It's nice to hear a story where someone actually did the right thing when they probably could have jerked you around and gotten out of it.

It may not be the integrity of the company, but the investment speaking. If these contractors deny you resolve and have you pissed off calling the city every day to try and get the municipality to go after the contractors they jeopardize their working relationship with the city and potential for future contracts.
Regardless, it's good to hear that someone took responsibility either way, and that you've been reimbursed.
Now... with that money you could go to a single exit with SS piping and a nice can. Any plans yet?

I really don't like the single exit systems. I also am not to fond of the sound of SS. The pipes are thinner and tend to sound really raspy.

I've been running the Dynomax system for about 7 years now and although it is pretty loud, I've heard MUCH louder, and it does sound very nice - awesome at idle. I'm just adding a Bonez cat with no pre-silencer and I'm afraid that the combination might be unbearable for me, let alone the neighbours! But then I just noticed a nice big hole blown through the gasket on the original cat, so it might just end up quieter, too
The RB exhuast system is lovely, but it's probably going to outlive the car!

Do yourself a favour and spend the big bucks on a mazda gasket for the car. I had the same problem, and bought a no-ame gasket. 2 months later it too burnt out. I went and got an OEM one and haven't had a problem since!

Nevermind my positive comments on the Dynomax system! I just put a new engine in my car, and picked up a used Bonez cat along the way. When I fired her up for the first time yesterday, I thought I had an exhaust leak at the cat/y-pipe flange. Tightened it - no difference. Took the joint apart and carefully re-assembled it - no difference. Started looking more closely and found that a weld at the y-pipe/muffler flange had rusted right through. Damn.
I don't know if I'm keeping the car, so I'm going to have to spend as little as possible - probably a Pacesetter system from JC Whitney.

Geez, I thought of that, but then discarded the notion thinking it wouldn't be possible for some reason.
Must have ripped open backing out of the driveway of my new house. They built the curbs so f'ing high that it's like dropping off a cliff when I back out. Hmmm...maybe I can employ the "Nick Technique"?

If you do, be sure to:
*Take a LOT of Pictures of the curb, the car, the damage etc.
*Go to a muffler shop and have a detailed estimate done to fix the damage. Make sure the estimate clearly puts impact with the curb as the source of the damage.
*Write a clear letter explaining everything that happened - including location, date, and a step-by-step account of what you did after the incident. Don't make it threatening! Just a well written matter-of-fact account.
Give it a try - you have nothing to loose!

Nick,
a nice thing that you can do for the construction company is to write a letter to the city, telling them that the issue has been resolved in a professional manner w/o any delays. you can also carbon copy the letter to the construction company as a thank you letter.
out of curiosity, what constuction company is it?
