Jdm Rx-7

Anyone here have a '92 jdm rx7 (3rd gen) that they imported from japan. How much did u pay for it, how many kilometers on the odo, does it run good, did u do any of the necessary modifacations that are posted in the faq portion, where there any problems with when the previous owner had it?

I work at a local rotary shop and most of the jdm fds i have seen are in pretty rough shape

U probalby wont get much of a response from the americans in this forum since they can not import cars that are less then 25 yrs old........hence no jdm fds in the good ol' USA......Canada can learn something from that

Yeah, I should of stated in my post if there are any canadians with jdm rx7's. So, u think not buying a 92 3rd jdm rx7 is a good choice cuz there in rough shape? What if the miles are really low, like in the 50000-70000km range?

I bought mine around christmas time but it wont be getting here until near the end of May. I payed just over 8 grand to get it here but I am also doing a majority of the importing work myself and never bought it through a Canadian based company. It has aruond 60,000km on it. Here are some pics. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v238/futball22/rx-7/

dont know much about the importing.......the jdm owners can help u more there......just dont bring over a junker........it will cost u just as much to get it in respectable shape as it would to by a LHD one here.......try the states first........u can often find them easier down there and they are LHD.......chance are if u are like the rest of us, u are gonna dump tonnes of cash into your fd in maintenance and performance mods.......start the project off right with a LHD........the extra money at the end of the day will be just a drop in the hat

Rebbecko........your jdm is one of the nicer ones i have seen....although it is just a few pictures......
peace

Sounds good - FD's are so lovely - I'd like one at some point but I already have another money pit (Lotus Seven clone build) so a FB is more practical for me at this point. Does yours have rear seats? I'd be interested to see how big they are.

Yeah it does have rear seats. But they are going to be really small. And sorry about that last comment. For some reason I thought that you started the thread and were wanting to buy a FD. I really should pay more attention. But I can still meet up with you and show you the car if you want to see it.

no offense, but don't you own or are affiliated with JDM imports, a company that buys and sells JDM imports... No offense, just pointing that out.

no point really, im just saying, if there is a potential JDM rx7 purchaser viewing the threads, I just think it would be good to know that the only real positive feedback we have so far on JDM sevens is from someone affiliated with the business of importing them.

I have no personal experience with importing FD's or any cars, im not saying they are junk, or if they are great, I dont know.

Only JDM FD I know of locally (Calgary) is in really primo condition, and looks much like the one posted by JDM-FD3S, except not as low.

Sorry carthik, it just seemed like your saying that the only reason why JDM-FD3S would say his fd3s is good is because he could be affiliated with jdm imports. I have seen this fd in person and I must say, it looks just as good, if not better in real life as the picture posted here. Even if JDM-FD3S was affiliated with jdm imports, im sure he was speaking as a fellow rx-7 owner and not a buisness man.

It is true that many of the JDM FD's that have been imported so far are junk, partially due to the limited amounts of FD's currently legal for import and partially due to individuals/curbers importing the cheapest FD they can find, all in all you get what you pay for.

If you take your time when looking for one and pay a reasonable amount for it you will get a quality FD.

To avoid any more controversy over being associated with an importer, I am a licensed dealer who imports JDM vehicles. However I have purchased an FD for myself which will be arriving May 5th . After I have picked it up I will add some feedback specific to my car.

The one I have purchased has higher kilometers than I would normally consider purchasing (150000) but the body and drive train are in great shape, the biggest issue for me was finding an unmodified FD and this one is bone stock.

As for modifications I will be installing a Koyo rad, new coilovers and tires right away. In the future the engine will be rebuilt, probably not until this winter when its going to be parked anyways.

As an importer in Canada, who do you have that inspects the cars for you in Japan? Also, ar you buying your cars through auctions or through private sales?

I am assuming your asking me this question.

I have a handful of trusted companies that I have purchased vehicles through over the last couple of years who have their staff inspect auction, dealer and private sale vehicles for me. To sum it up they are licensed dealers in Japan that I can hold accountable for any mistakes/oversights on their part. They also all speak english well enough that I dont have to learn to speak Japanese.
