J-spec engines from Canadian importers?

Just wondering, because googling only seems to turn up U.S.-based importers who charge exorbant shipping fees and/or ship via UPS or some other entity hell-bent on ***-raping customers via brokerage fees.

It would be good to know if there are any Canada-based suppliers of most Japanese-make engines (not just Mazda) for future purchases of rotary engines, but at the moment we're considering upgrading from the stock 3E-E engines in our daily-driver Tercels to the optional 5EFE engines used in later Tercels and Paseos. The engines that currently reside in our cars are somewhat "tired."

Have you tried Tiger Japanese at www.tigerjapanese.com? They are based out of Toronto and they seem to have a lot of stock.

Not sure about in Calgary, but I know at any given moment I could drive into T.O. and buy engines from about 3 or 4 different places.

Tiger Japanese - 1 888 664 6618
Lucky Star - 1 888 605 4444
Japan Power - 1877 548 0888

Then in Quebec theres even more! And in my experience, most of what they had was in better shape (at least FC stuff) then what was in Toronto. They were also the only places that had 20B's on hand.

Engine Land - 1877 966 0888
Royal Japanese - 1877 424 5780
Tokyo Motor Imports - 1866 322 5558
Sunrise Japanese Auto Parts - 1 800 233 1299

I'm sure there's people in Calgary who do the same.

I've bought several engines from tiger japanese and i have to say they aren't too bad to deal with, espeically once you get to know them, and nobody can beat their prices.

Thanks for all the replies and info. I've so far checked out the two companies located in Calgary. One of them seems a bit pricy ($1200 cash and carry) but the other, Japan Racing Engines has just what I need in stock for $750 CDN. What's more, they'll install it for $500 and the engine comes with the intake and exhaust necessary for the conversion.

I have my own extra-large garage complete with engine hoist, so I could do this myself--- but at the price they're asking to install it my time is worth more than that, and there's warranty issues if not done by a licenced mechanic. Still, I'm debating.

Thanks donz,

I did check their web site and noticed that they charge around $1200 for the engine I'm looking for, while Japan Racing Engines charges around $750 CND + $500 if they install it.

On the other hand I've also talked to another individual who is familiar with JDMsource, who stated that the owner is a straight-up guy who will let you perform a compression test after install before any $ changes hands.

I'll have to confirm if Japan Racing offers the same arrangement, because at least one rotary guru in our happy little community has had some less-than-favourable results with J-spec rotaries. I'm not sure if the same risk holds true with the Toyota Paseo boingers I'm looking for to run in our daily drivers...

most places will let you test the compression and most places have a (short) warranty so you know it's a good motor.
