You know you've been away for a long time when you see this -

Anyways, I no longer have a Rex, but a guy at work bought an old Celica with a Series 6 engine (5000kms) and Series 5 turbo. I haven't seen the car.
He says the car drives well (no smoke, no odd noises) and has lots of power. When he parks the car and lets it sit, there is oil on the ground, and under the bonnet (ummm... hood), there is oil everywhere on the right handside (opposite side of turbo).
I've never seen an S6 engine, but it can't be too different to an S4 engine.
The first time it happened he took it to a Rotary mechanic in Sydney (oh, by the way, I'm back in Australia), and they couldn't explain it. No obvious cracks or leaks anywhere.
It happened again yesterday, and I was trying to explain that it was probably either a cracked Oil inlet pipe (or the cap), the oil filter, or maybe even the oil pan.
He's never seen a rotary before, so he wasn't sure about what should or shouldn't be in the engine bay.
As I mentioned the Oil inlet pipe to him, he said that just under the cap, there was a small metal tube coming out of the pipe (sounds like an oil return pipe to me). Then he said that the pipe was not connected to anything.
I asked him if the pipe was blocked off... he said no. It's just an open tube coming out of the oil inlet pipe.
I couldn't help laughing at him. When I asked him what he thought would happen if he drove the car with the Oil cap off, it suddenly dawned on him how funny the whole thing was.
He now feels a lot happier about his new car (and I still can't stop laughing).
What annoys me though, is that the supposed Rotary mechanics didn't catch this! They saw it, but just told him they could block the tube off if he wanted to, but it wouldn't cause a problem, and let him drive off. Pathetic!!!
Oh well... thought I'd give you all a laugh.

I don't know about the S6, but the S3 has a similar little pipe coming off the oil filler neck, and you can either hook it to a purge valve then a vacuum source, or filter it right at the neck.... but if you cap it you'll get oil-foam buildup in the filler neck.
I don't know if this is the same thing you're talking about, but keep your eyes open for other sources of leaks just in case
Welcome back
