Congrats to the Italian Fans but it was far from a convincing win. Italy played much better against Germany.

But more upsetting is Zidane being sent of in his last professional appearance. The Italian defender must have said something off coulour to provoke a stateman like Zidane to react that way.

Anyhow my majority Italian neighbourhood is currently erupting in car horns.

Neither team truely deserved to be in the final (Italy's win over Australia was an embarassment), and Italy 2006 surely wont be remembered as a "great" team.

But I suppose the format as it is, is what makes for an exciting tournament!

Wow interesting responses to that post.

The italian players took some dives, but if anyone can point out 1 team where players didn't take any I'll admit it was a false victory.

I on the other hand however, will be happy for my team as that win has been a long time coming.

Until next cup.!

I couldn't belive Italy beat Austrailia like that. I was in shock. I still am.

Personally, I would have prefered England and France in the final for old times sake.

But Alass, Im not a huge fan of football. I did root for france simply because Im more french than anything.

Some teams dove more than others. Some teams really try to turn the momentum of a game based on a dive. Italy and Portugal are the pre-eminent artists in that regard.

When France got up 1-0, on a penalty resulting from a dive interestingly enough, I was excited. Finally, Italy would have to play from behind and show some offence. Luca Toni had 30 goals in Serie-A this year, for crying out loud!! I know Italy can play a more offensive style, if they wanted.

France played the better game. I was cheering for them right until the Zidane heabutt. After that display of moronity, I didn't really care, since I knew they where done. No Henry (not sure why he got pulled, he takes all the Penalties for Arsenal) and now no Zizou.

Hey, at least Germany lost to the World Champs. Looking forward to Euro 2008.

I'm just happy Italy won. I didn't want the French to win... It's unfortunate what happened to Zidane. HOpefully they'll reveal what the Italian player said to provoke such a response from a great player like Zidane...

Lates,

Well at least Zidane still won the "Golden Ball" for player of the tournament despite the headbutt.

But having watched the replays a few times I must say that the headbutt was also a clinical display of skill.

^^^Nah. Everyone thinks that. Too bad it has become such a huge (and bad) part of the game.

lmao, that is somefunny stuff, i think i should be able to play on france or italy's team, im pretty good at faking.. theyd win a few more world cups that way

and yeah this game was down there with the austrailian game. the france/ portugal game was unfair, i think portugal would have had a chance if henry didnt "fall" for that pen.kick...

they might have even had a chance to win against italy..

that video is pretty much true about any of the international squads, just that the italians have mastered it. lol

finaly, italy adds another star to their crest. its been 24 years since they last one. for one thing that spanish ref, no offense to any spanish ppl, but he was horrible. only after the faft that he knew for sure the french took a dive did he realize that ohh maybe i should call a fair game.second half was a little boring for me anyways, and i hated for them to end the game in shootouts.

as for zidane who is a world class player, for him him to do sucha stupid thing wil never be forgotten. although what DE Rossi did to the american player was stupid too.

on a side note for the world cup in 2010 in south africa, the final 4 teams are Argentina, Germany, Italy and Brazil.

GO AZZURRI.

i don't think the best team won. actually the best team wasn't even in the final. but it was an exciting world cup, and final, anyways.

i don't care how many ways Materazzi made of Zidane's mother, or whatever, that is no excuse for someone like him in that position to do that...but yes, quite an impressive display of skill, heh
