Insurance for a teenager?

This is why rates in Ontario are higher than the rest of Canada. Insurance fraud is estimated to cost Ontario drivers $1.3 BILLION according to a CAA article. When insurance companies pay out claims that they have not adequately collected premiums for, they pass their losses onto the rest of us.
This is not discrimination but cold hard statistical fact, young male drivers are involved in more accidents than any other group because they take stupid risks and think they are much better drivers than they really are. Face it, 99% of us on this forum were once those very same stupid young male drivers. As a result they should pay more premiums, until something changes the statistical realty ... like mandatory driver training for all new drivers, limiting the type of vehicle they can drive (ie like under 100 bhp), no driving after 11 pm, etc.

Having a car in your parents name is okay, as long as your primary driver on it. The owner of the vehicle has to provide insurance, not the user, so if the car is under your parents name, they must insure it. The only two direct values I can see in this is; a)getting a multiple car discount, b)If someone is applying for osap loans, it is not considered part of their assets
You should still be building up your insurance credentials as you are a rated primary driver on a policy. I could be wrong, but my experience with switching to my own name only saw a drop in my rate, rather than an increase
