Importing RX-7 from USA to Canada

Hey Guys,
I am in the market for a 3rd Gen RX-7 and have been looking around the classifieds and do see quite a few for sale in the USA. Can anyone give me some tips for importing a 1993 or 1994 to Canada (Toronto). I have found a few that I am interested in, one is as close as New York City. Anyways, any tips or suggestions. I have googled around and found a few websites but does anyone know of any good brokers to use or should I just fly down and drive it back (if NYC). Obviously buying from Las Vegas or California would need to be shipped.
Thanks,
EC

In addition to what 7_rocket said, check out www.riv.ca. It's actually quite simple, but a bit of work is involved.

You'll need to get a recall clearance letter from Mazda USA. You'll need to fax a copy of the title to US customs at the port of exit/entry 72 hrs before attempting to cross. Present the original copy of the title along with a fax confirmation slip to US customs before you exit the country. Once you're cleared on the US side, it's quite simple on the Canadian side. Pay your RIV fee, A/C fee, GST and you're good to go. Get the federal inspection at Canadian Tire, wait a few days for acceptance, get your compliance sticker, pay PST at the MTO and you got yourself an ownership. If you have the safety done at C/T, you can wrap things up at once at the MTO. I've done it many times....it's not hard at all. My 94 cost $650 to ship from down south to the border. Shop around if you need to have it shipped as the prices vary wildly.

Great posts!
I was just reading that link that was posted by 7_Rocket and I came across this:

Gas Guzzler Tax: On March 19, 2007 the Canadian Federal government introduced a new excise tax on fuel-inefficient vehicles. This applies to all new vehicles purchased in Canada or imported from the US. Automobiles that have a weighted average fuel consumption rating of 13 or more litres per 100 kilometres will be subject to the excise tax at the following rates:

at least 13 but less than 14 litres per 100 kilometres, $1,000;
at least 14 but less than 15 litres per 100 kilometres, $2,000;
at least 15 but less than 16 litres per 100 kilometres, $3,000; and
16 or more litres per 100 kilometres, $4,000.

Does the RX-7 fall in this class? I am sure it is worse than 13 litres per 100km but do they even check this? Has anyone impored an RX-7 post March 19th, 2007 when this new Gas Guzzler Tax came into effect?

If they look at highway figures, then FD's are in the clear. Now if they look at city figures, we're gonna be hitting the $4,000 bracket.

L/100 km = 282.48 ÷ mi/gal

Manual transmission: 17 MPG City, 25 MPG Highway
Automatic transmission: 18 MPG City, 24 MPG Highway

I imported mine in June 2007.... no such tax. Doesn't it only apply to new vehicles? Posted fuel consumption rates for the FD were around 15/23 MPG city/hwy respectively. At 15.4, the MPG and L/100 km curves cross, so no matter what units of measure you're using, you'd be screwed royally if this excise tax were to apply and if they used the city fuel consumption rate.

I imported a 1999 5.3 GM extended cab 4x4 truck last April, didn't have to pay any gas-guzzler tax. Rated at around 15 / 20 MPG. you're fine

Gas guzzler tax applies to new vehicles - so a new car you import from the States is on the same footing as one bought from a Canadian dealer.
