I Thought This Might Be Interesting

So, I was slacking a bit this morning and wanted to put off creating a presentation. So I decided to see how quickly I was going around Mosport when I did the 1:38.02 lap in my Cougar. In reality, the car doesn't matter, but what does matter is how quick I was going through most of the corners to get to this speed and how dog slow up Andretti the Cougar is with the stock gearbox. What I did was pull the rpm and gear I was in from my in-car video when I was at the apex of each corner and just before I touched the brakes going in to turn 8. I then used a speed calculator to determine how fast I was going. It is maybe off a bit, but is pretty accurate and makes you realize how freaking fast Mosport really is.

Here are the details;

Turn 1 - 87 mph or 141 kmh
Turn 2 - 97 mph or 156 kmh
Turn 3 - 81 mph or 131 kmh
Turn 4 - 102 mph or 164 kmh
Turn 5A - 62 mph or 99 kmh
End of Straight - 123 mph or 204 kmh
Turn 8 - 105 mph or 169 kmh
Turn 9 - 75 mph or 121 kmh
Turn 10 - 69 mph or 111 kmh

So what does this show? It proves absolutely nothing other than Mosport is a smoking fast track, that with better tires I could easily carry 5 mph more through each of the corners and that I need the Quaife close ratio box back in the car bigtime as my old speed with the Quaife was about 10 mph faster than it is now. The other interesting thing, is except for turns 5B and Turn 10, aero grip will have an effect on every other corner.

Just an interesting study.

The car with the proper gearbox and tires that work, actually runs in the 1:34's. I will try to collect the data from that session and see what the differences are.

Worth the analysis. Without active telemetry, this is the best way (other than "butt dyno") to get your lap times down. Every bit of speed helps... are you very consistent from lap to lap? Also, will a faster speed through the corner necessarily mean the shortest or best line through? Just asking rhetorically.

LOL. Actually, for the last half of the race I only varied by 2/10's. It was about all the car would give me.

I have a bit of experience.
