..WOW!..
Ok My opinion?..besides Use a Freakin Coaster?(or whatever!)
They make Cutting Boards, that are Made of Glass,That you can install into a Countertop. My suggestion is to take the "burnt portion" out and install one of those Cutting boards.
Presto..
Or Stay away from the Stove at night!
Question Fer ya....HOW the Frigg did your Landlord Find out SO QUICK about this "accident"???

There's no real way to fix it and make the fix last. The burned spot could be cut out and replaced very carefully with a new section but getting the edges to not lift in 3 years is going to be nearly impossible. Also, the seam will always be visible. Such is the nature of laminate. Other materials (stone, metal, concrete, plastic) can be repaired but laminate cannot if you expect the repair to last.

Damn renters. Years ago, the first house I bought I got a good deal on since the previous owners were renting it out and the renters were crazy. They wanted to kick the renters out and the easiest way is to sell the house.
So before I buy I went I go take a look at the house and I was in shock; there's a stained single mattress on the front lawn, garbage bages piled in front of the garage door, random kids shoes in the shrubs, under the trees, trash every where. That was just the outside. I go inside an right away new I had to redo the entire kitchen; chips out of the laminate counters, burn marks from pans, burn marks in the vinyl floors, the tap is loose and water is eating the lamiate around it etc etc. I'm laughing as I'm trying to imagine whoever did these things in action and what they could be thinking. Nobody's perfect, but this was a spotless neighborhood and it was so bizarre.
Anyway, it was a good deal, so I wasn't too worried. But I thought to myself: who lives like this? OP: I hope you've got some lame excuse like you were drunk or something, cause you really shouldn't be surprised that if you destroy something you have to fix it...

One of my customers is a major property management company and it is absolutely shocking the pictures of property damage that I come across on their systems as I am performing maintenance. And the stories would make your stomach turn in a split second. The excuses are the best part though and always, I mean always, good for a laugh. Someone should make a website about this stuff.

Aaron is right - there is no way to repair a counter top. (I spent many years in the construction and property management business).
$300 is cheap - just count it as a lesson learned - and you get a new counter, too.
