But you can usually get a deal...

What ever you do, get the proper plugs, ie:NGK BR8EQ or BR9EQ depending on year of car. This rules out anything from Canadian Tire or with fewer than four electrodes per plug. The $8 price is about right if you find a reasonable supplier, but smaller cities and towns tend to have only one source. Often that one source is Mazda, and the price per plug is often over $10.

BR8EQ or BR9EQ does not depend on year of car, but rather on driving style. If you're doing alot of Highway driving, you want the BR9s, if you do alot of city driving, you want the BR8s. These are for first gens. Leading and Trailing take the same. The 8 and 9 refer to how hot/cold the plug is (how far insulation comes up the centre electrode IIRC)

I don't know what the second gens run.

BUR8EQ's for 2nd gens, with the heat number again varying by driving style...

Also good if you're runnning a good direct fire setup on a 1st gen...

THAT'S what it was, I stand corrected. I've only ever used BR8s in my 12A 1st gens because those are what are typically recommended for those cars, and with no mention of heat range requirements. As EvilRotor stated, the 2nd gens do use different plugs for leading vs. trailing.

I need to buy a set of plugs as well to try get my car running, the ones in it are rusted and I don't think they're NGKs. Anyway my question is, if I get the plugs from Mazda are they the NGK BR8EQ's?

Which ones they are will be printed right on them. Read before buying.

Aaron, hope you like Keiths

sjd, if you buy 1st Gen plugs from mazda, yes they will be the BR8EQ-14s. The BR9s are available through part stores. This is one of the few parts that I actually sometimes buy at the dealership because Performance Mazda often has them in stock, and the charge about the same as any local part store. Call Ahead.

See you guys tonight (for those going to the BBQ)

I bought some last week - $11.30 per for NGKs (lead and trail same price), at
Gregg Distributors in Calgary. Next lowest price I got phoning around was $12.40 at Auto Value, and around 14 at PartSource.
