Helmet recommendations?

Hey guys,

I'm heading out to track school this weekend and they require a M2000 or SA2000 minimum.

Does anybody have helmet and vendor recommendations? CSC Racing is an advertiser with the Toronto Autosport Club, but I won't be able to get there during 9 to 5 hours.

Thanks

What's the plan after this event? Are you looking to do touring cars, time attack, lapping, autoslalom - or something else? Helmet requirements will vary by the series - touring and time attack will require SA helmets (SA are more rugged, recognizing that multiple impacts may be involved in a car rollover or on-track mishap, but are heavier and overkill for autocrossing or lapping, especially if there is no rollcage in the car. You could probably pick up a M2005/SA2005 or newer helmet cheap on kijiji, if it is for limited use, and you don't mind a bucket someone else's head has sweated in. Don't even look at Snell 2000-series helmets - they will be approaching 10 years old, or more and while might still be in good shape, the chances of it having been dropped or otherwise abused go up, and most series only allow helmets of the current spec and one or two back (the Snell spec is revised approx. every 5 years).
I'd tell you to go to Rallysport.ca, but if you're looking for something for this weekend, I think you'd be SOL - unlikely you could get it shipped in time.

I don't plan to compete, so it will be used when I'm lapping. I called JRP and they said they have helmets in stock, so I'll go over there and take a look soon with Snell 2010 certifications in mind. If the M standard helmet is lighter, I might go with that, since lapping requirements don't seem to be as stringent as competition rules.

Just picked up an Impact helmet 2010 at Fast Eddies just north of Stouffville. They also sell Simpson. Impact is a much better price than Bell helmets. I wouldn't try to save a handful of dollars by going with an "M". You might be sorry later.

Thanks, Tom. I'll stick with the SA2010 models.
