I think grey market refers more to new vehicles (or other products) not brought in to a market by the manufacturer's designate (eg., Mazda Canada). Not illegal imports, but ones not supported by the manufacturer officially, and so without warranty. Same thing happens if you buy a car down in the US to take advantage of the substantially lower prices there (if a dealer will even sell it to you; most manufacturers prohibit their American dealers selling to Canadians); the Canadian arm will likely refuse to honour the warranty.

this kinda makes it sound like they are. in 1992 mazda didnt import them here. and in japan they were sold under the Efini brand name.

Im just looking for loopholes for the emission test and the hotrod rule

It'll be classified as grey market but you'll still need to pass an etest.

I'm not sure where they get the numbers you have to pass from - but they're different every time and they seem to get stricter every year.

If you don't have a cat and a working emissions system, you'll probably fail.

I owned a 92 FD, and I needed to get it E-tested.

my klze mx3 could pass barely with a hollowed out cat

I have the cat and airpump all still on and working , I just want to make sure it passes. it runs good, no smoke doesnt stink like my FC
