Jim, thank you for making this offer.

I don't have a need to rebuild an engine (since you already did mine a couple years ago). But I would love to be a fly on the wall and look over your shoulder to experience the process, first hand.

If I was younger, with a potential to rebuild many engines in my lifetime, I would grab this opportunity. But at this point, my engine might out live me.

Good for you, Jim.

This is the coolest thing I've ever seen any guy do. Judging by the large amount of respect for his rebuilding skills, I'd love to be a part of it!

I'd fly to where you are in the summertime for a great opportunity to learn from great experience!

Someone mentioned putting on a small class? You could count me in if you considered going that route as well.

Just awesome and very generous !

Mazda (oem) parts list for those wanting to use original parts, in most cases you would want to order all the parts listed that pertain to your engine (13b). You may also get by with using used apex seals and oil control rings for a budget build but all soft seals must be replaced....last four items are s4-5 and S6 gaskets which are different. Most Mazda dealers will give you a discount if you mention the RX7 Club, keep in mind Mazda seems to be increasing their pricing on a regular bases. I would also highly recommend using new 2pcs. apex seals of any make. Again most of this stuff is your choice

There has also been speculation that I have been soliciting business thought this forum by PMing people due to me making this thread, I would encourage anyone to post in this thread if I have done so, I’m just trying to be honorable and again my service to those that want it is free of charge. For what it's worth I am no long in the business and the last 4 engines I have built have been free of charge for friends with race cars.

I'd trust very few people to build a proper, long-lasting engine - especially nowadays when people think anyone can do it reliably. Jim is the guy to listen to if you want to learn how to do it properly.

..and just a quick reply to that.

Anyone that complains about someone giving away their time and knowledge FREELY to someone else, should have their Freakin' Head examined.

Now now, lets not forget the people who have been building endurance engines for 30 years with engines that still run 10 years later like Dave Diedrick from Mazdee's, Can-Saf, and Mazmark. Respect where credit is due.

For those that have inquired about help with rebuilding a engine please keep in mind that all the internal parts “MUST” be clean of all dirt and carbon deposits, plates, rotors, etc....like your going to eat your dinner off them. I also forgot to mention the oil control rings, they maybe reused if they are with in spec, please be very careful removing them from the rotors.....any damage to the sealing face deems the junk. They also will need new O-rings and springs.

Wow, Jim what a offer. Alway thought you were a great guy but this proves it in spades.

Are you retiring from the daily grind as well, this is a great way to keep yourself busy as well as helping others out. LMK me know what your next project, I'd love to help out and watch the master in action as I have way to much spare time on my hands as well.

Good stuff - just the parts list is a boon for those wanting to get their poop in a pile and do this themselves.

Amazing offer.

I am fairly new to Rx7's. My dad has an 82 Fb and I just recently bought my own. 1982 GS with 100k km. Original coniditon.

I will seriously consider picking up a 12A locally and tear it down if you could help rebuild it.

Hey Jim...I must say once again you have impressed me. I don't get on here much any more, so I haven't been as close to the scene as I once was. Every time I needed help when I was younger you were there to help! There are very few that stick with the rotary for many years, and I hope this creates more die hard enthusiasts. Hell my car is in need of a rebuild, and would be all over this if I had the time to tear apart the FD !!

cheers and have fun with this
