Getting ready for the race season :)

Well finally getting ready for the new season. I'm pretty pumped for this year I really hope i can knock down a few more seconds.

I'm starting out with my fuel system. I'm starting off by upgrading my walbro pump to the Bosch 044 pump. Also I'm adding a couple more injectors, so I had to mill my intake manifold and also fabricate a fuel rail. I also had to fabricate some fittings for the fuel pump. Here's the shots of those

Then its was time for a bit of heatshielding between my intake and exhaust so I made one up with a thin sheet of aluminum and covered it up with DEI's "Reflect-A-Gold".

I also redid my exhaust system. Everything after the collector has been changed. Installed a megaphone, center muffler/expansion chamber, all mandrel bent tubing. It megaphones to 3" in the center and then after that its all 2.5". I made the mufflers myself also.

And lastly the air horn and silencer polished up:

Other things that will be done will include:

Tokico 5 way adjustable shocks, instead of the tokico blues that I have now.
Eibach springs will be ditched in favor of coil overs with spring rates of 325 front and 175 rear
Camber Plates
Proper alignment
Corner weight balancing
Upgrading firmware of the megasquirt
More training for my butt! lol

I think all that should keep me happy for this year atleast

WOW, beautiful stuff. Its almost too pretty to take on track. First your car is gorgeous, now the underside is getting all pretty with quickstuff as well.

Great work.

Thanks Eric

I would like to cover most of the underside with paneling to keep it a bit cleaner and then do a diffuser of some sort. First gen with a diffuser, now thats something I haven't seen yet. Probably been done but I just haven't seen it.

Great work!

Does this mean you're getting rid of the old fuel pump?

Thanks for the compliments guys. I should hopefully be able to test for leaks and what not with the old pump on. I was hoping that today would be a bit sunnier but I can't always win I guess.

That silencer looks great after a little more elbow grease. If the weather holds I'm planning to pull the suspension off for Raj. I could use your impact gun and an extra set of hands so gimme a call if your free for a bit.

Well got the car fired up today, first try and it idled beautifully! I'm getting the hang of this tunning pretty good now i think. Its funny idle was fine, but everything else was crap lol. About 15 minutes of playing around with the megasquirt its drivable.

I haven't swapped my pump out yet, so i had a bit of fuel pressure issues with that. When we started out our few minutes of running, pressure was about 43psi, by the time we were done, it had gone down to 30ish apparently. All that should be addressed tomorrow if weather is good.

One more good thing that doesn't always happen is that all my AN fitting and braided lines didn't have a single leak I sometimes just never know how much to tighten those things up.

I always crank my AN fittings untill they are completely bottomed out. Haven't had a problem yet. Also, when I assemble them I don't use the lubricant and sealant that they tell you to use. I use brake lube for the lubricant and hylomar for the sealant. Seems to work for me. Nice work on the car Sam. Love that exhaust. I hope my exhaust on the Rx-4 turns out that nice.

We're suppose to use lube and sealant on there? I've always just done them dry. Oops

That would help. I always lube the outside of the line, then twist the outer collar on to it. Then I put the hylomar on the barb of the fitting that slides inside the line. Works mint!

Maybe I just love doing things the hard way lol. I finally got the pump inside the tank today. I had to remodify my fittings on the pump and the ones on the tank. I had to make everything shorter to make the pump fit. If the pump was about 1/4" longer I would of been screwed. I also removed the fuel level part along with the low fuel part as they've never worked for some stupid reason. The stock one didn't work, and the second gen one didn't want to work neither so screw it. I've been doing fine without them right now anyways.

I really hope that I can finish everything before deals gap. I still have to install the handbrake cable, passenger side lower control arm and mounting hardware, front sway bar links, upload all my music to my carputer as I took everything on my home computer to re-organize, and maybe get some time for a decent wash.

That's not that much work. I have to go over my car from top to bottom, change the oil, build a fan shroud for my rad fan, possibly swap transmissions (again), and wash, wax, and detail it. I'll be busy this weekend.

Shouldn't tighten them to you bottom them out

if there's a leak you should only just snug it up at least thats what I was taught for residential plumbing lol

I kinda forgot to list the biggest one, tuning the ecu. With a new firmware, more cells to play with, and not having to work with bugs is kinda weird. If I can get the car driveable on the highway by tuesday or so, I'll be in good shape I think, if not, I might need a tuning buddy.
