Generally Pissed with Vendors

Just the old guy ranting again!
I order a part from a US company recently (not naming names), emailed, told it was in stock so I placed my order on the Sunday. Everything go thru fine paypal, invoice etc. and the next day I get a email saying it will ship tomorrow. Today I decide to call for a track number 15 days after it supposedly shipped and I am told the part will ship tomorrow or the next day when the new stock comes in. Also was told a email will be sent with the track number when sent. Believe it when I see it. In the past couple of years this is become the way companies seem to do business. But in this poor economic climate you would figure companies would be more upfront or are they afraid to lose the business to someone else, which in this case I had options but their price was best.

Your thoughts and experiences:

I have noticed that everything I have bought through EBAY has been a great experience and several things on company web sites about 50/50 .

I think that fear of a poor feedback score on EBAY actually works and motivates sellers to high customer service .

I've pretty much ordered all my US parts from worksconcepts, they're awesome. But ya, eBay with good feedback has always worked well for me

I had an experience like this with a rather large aftermarket auto parts supplier last year, which delayed getting my 79 on the road by close to a month. Website showed parts were in stock. Placed the order, paypal went through and I got confirmation email that the parts will be shipped within 48 hours I think. 2 weeks later, no tracking number, no sign of my package which was due to arrive around then. I called and found out that a couple of the parts I had ordered were on backorder, and would be for some time yet. I told them to take those parts off the order and refund me my money for said backordered parts, which they did. The rest of the parts promptly arrived at my door about a week later.

Moral of the story, always double check that stock is actually there, and if you don't get a tracking number when your supposed to, call and make sure its actually been shipped. Seems companies don't care to communicate when parts are not in stock after you order them.

I have always had good luck with ebay stores. I find getting stuff on ebay to be easier than any other website.

80% of my orders through major online stores has been on back order, even if I was told it was in stock. Recently bought a 3" dual exhaust, turbo back, off a ebay store...got my tracking number that night and it came with free two day shipping from texas to NE Ohio. Ebay seems to be the way to go, even if u order from the same place and they have an ebay store it tends to be truer to their word

Yeah, before you check out any online stores, send them an e-mail to double check if the item is in stock before making payment. If it needs back order, then at least you know it right away, and you can decide to make payment or not.

I'll go ahead and mention a name. It wasn't a huge deal but I ordered a handful of parts from Mazdatrix and one part was not available. I didn't see the charge on my credit card so I called and found out what was up. The point is as a customer I should not have to make phone calls to find out the status of my order. It takes a minute to write a one line email stating the holdup and you can fire off a bunch of those at the end of the day if necessary.

That's what happened to me. Some of these vendors don't keep the high priced items in stock They order directly from the manufacturer but they seem to keep that information out of your order form!

^ Agree, they don't keep high priced items in stock, but the website said it is in stock, very contradict. Then after I found out it needs to be back ordered, I asked for how long, and it vary from few weeks to 2-3 months......

Well it's been 4 days since I called and no email or update on their site. Also since I purchase the item the price has gone up $50, maybe their waiting for me to cancel my order so their not out the money!

You got it, never again. I need this now the car in pieces waiting on this part, also ordered all new gaskets from mazda they been in since last week and the y-pipe has still not shipped. Now I'm really pissed, I had three other places I could of order it from! DGRR is next month and this is really killing my timing on the balance of work that has to be done. Should of just bought a used one here.

This comes with owning an RX-7.
Anytime I had to deal with aftermarket parts regarding the car would always result in a 2-3 week waiting period before I received or heard anything.
That's just the way it is with this sort of thing.

If you plan to get things up and running for a certain date or time, add another 3-4 months (if not more) to your actual finish date.

The FD is at the point where everything is almost done, but I need just a few more things. I know it'll probably be another 1-2yrs before I see any results. Mainly because of funding problems, but I know when I do order the parts, it'll probably take about a week or 2 before I actually get it.
God forbid the parts are not in stock or they need to fly them over from Japan.

Take it with a grain of salt, and keep on moving...

The only way to do it is to overnight parts from Japan.

It's actually faster than ordering from the US.
