Feeling Very Good Today

I had a very interesting weekend involving racecars. On saturday I was asked to help out a buddy of mine who had purchased the ex-Capaldi World Challenge Cougar from a team in Nova Scotia. This car had led a pretty hard life and a bunch of parts had been swapped off it and replaced with other lower cost stuff. The basis of the car was still there, but man had it led a hard life over the last few years. He couldn't get it running, so I went up there and we rolled it out of his garage and before I could touch it, I wanted to Gunk its engine bay as it was all covered in a thick layer of grease and dirt.

After cleaning it and replacing the plugs (with the correct racing plugs, grrrr.....), I had to drain the old fuel and put in fresh stuff. Hit the starter and blaaammmm, it came alive. One down.

This got me thinking about my Cougar. It had been sitting at my other house for over 2 years and totally ignored while I bought all the stuff to build the new Quaife gearbox. So, I went over there, pushed it out of the garage, gave it a bath and put it onto the battery charger. Let it sit over night and went back Sunday to see if I could get this one to start. Checked the plugs and they looked fine, drained the scummy 3 year old race gas out of it and replaced it with fresh, checked the oil and cranked it over. Two cranks and blaaammmmmm.... this one was alive as well, so I decided that enough was enough and brought it over to my house. I then spent most of yesterday cleaning up the garage so that it could be beside the RX7 and rolled both out to do the work. Finished it up, fired up the Cougar and backed it into the garage with no issues. Tried to fire up the RX7 and sput, sput, mother $%#@*^ing car, fouled the plugs. Changed the plugs on the RX7 and it fired right up and I backed it into the garage beside the Cougar.

Now all both cars are snug and ready to go (after I change the clutch and put the rebuilt gearbox into the Cougar) and Ontario now has 3 more racecars running and being cared for.

A good weekend with lots of good Karma for motorsports. We are looking at bringing both Cougars out to a CSCS or OTA event later this year. It will be the first time that both cars have been on track together and as they are the only 2 Ford Factory racecars ever built, it will be pretty cool. At least they sound great, LOL.

Sweet! Did you go to Mosport to check out any of the racing from this past weekend? Does anyone know where I can find times/standings/results?

Thanks

You need to go to the individual series websites to see the results. The craziest stuff is that the Honda's in CTCC got down in to the 1:27.xxx bracket. This is with only about 280 whp. That is freakin' insanely fast.

The old Proteges and mazda6 with sunbelt belt motors from world challenge were around 270hp and turned those times with a sequential box and that was with the **** toyo tires...
So its not impossible with a pro driver.

And those K series motors should be making more torque..
