FD for 2500? Too good to be true?

I saw this ad on kijiji, where the owner's selling an FD for 2500... granted an RHD (aka insurance rape), but do you guys think it's too good to be true?

This sounds more likely, but high for RHD. With the list of mods he could part it out for a lot more that 2,500 bucks.

The price to insure a RHD FD is exactly the same (to the cent) as to insure a LHD FD.

And I'm betting that no one is buying it because I'd guess it's a scam. The car in the picture does not have some of the promenant features listed in the ad:

No 99 spec front splitter

No 99 spec rear spoiler (hard to see the rear, but I don't see a spoiler)

No 5 spoke rims (those look like 8 spoke)

Trouble is, finding a company that will offer any coverage for a right hand drive. Theres only one company out here that we found that will offer anything over liability. If the car is modified? Forget it.

Its private out here, and aparently picky. Anyone will give you liability, but when you want anymore coverage than that, then it gets really picky when RHD is involved. Alot of places wont give you any more coverage because they just write it off anyways if its RHD.

Its dumb, because they charge whatever they want, especially if they know they are the only ones willing to insure it.

Are there still (cheap) companies that still haven't file a rule against RHD? I heard that ever since Dominion bailed out all the remaining companies have high rates...

Except the companies that offer reasonable insurance have filed rules not to insure them so that point is mute.

There are plenty of "normal" companies that will insure your RHD FD.

AXA
Intact
RSA
Guarantee Company of North America
York Fire
Aviva

I'm not even trying and I just named 6.

I've said this SO many times, the problem is NOT your RHD car. 80% of the time it's where you live, 20% of the time it's you.

Even if you live in the middle of nowhere and you don't have any tickets or accidents, you still have to FORCE your broker to write the policy. They don't want to, but you have rights, I have already typed up an almost word-for-word how-to on what to say to your broker to get your car written in another thread.

Geoff,

I live in Caledon, one ticket (no right turn on red), no accidents, 25 with a G, always had insurance, Always! No broker wants to deal with me unless I pay 700$ a month...it really isn't worth it.

This RHD business sucks.

CloudPump, I own a LHD FD, a RHD FD, and an RX-8. The LHD FD and the RX-8 have very similar pricing (Less then 2k /year, RX-8 being barely more then the RX-7). My company Belair Direct doesn't insure RHD due to rules. Ok, thats fine but every company I've checked that will accept it was at minimum double the cost so I don't understand how it doesn't make a difference. I only get 3rd party insurance as well, no coverage on my actual vehicle.

I'm 25 with 2 minor speeding tickets (stupid new york) and have had my full G since I was 18 or so and been insured since I had my G1 @ 16. No accidents or insurance claims.

I guess I'll look into those companies when I get some free time. And yes I know you can force them with the filed rule and you don't have to tell them its a RHD until the end. Thanks.

I pay 765$ a year not a month. But I'm a old fart with 35+ years experience, no claims in twenty years and before that it was always the other person charged with doing sometime stupid. I agree with Cloudpump RHD/LHD no difference, the issue is with the insurance companies. Your age, location, and marital status are the real killer not the car! When I was much younger living in Toronto I paid a fortune to drive and it change a small percentage between four doors and two doors, two doors being more expensive.
Once I was over 25, married and moved/worked north of the city I finally saw my insurance rates drop slowly over the years.
