FC Spotted at Mosport Vintage racing festival

To be more exact, the first RX-7 I have seen race on track with the other group 70+ cars since I have been attending the VARAC festival at Mosport 9 years ago. Anyone know who it was that raced this weekend? Here is a pic:

That does look like Al's peri port monster. Good luck Al!

Thats Al's FC. He has been running it in G70 for about 4 years and has attended a number of Vintage Festivals.

I was speaking to him this morning about the weekend and he really really doesn't like running the stock box again after using the close ratio Mazxdacomp box. Ha Ha Ha, welcome to my world Al.

Realistically, that car is one of the cleanest stock bodied Rx7's I have ever seen and I doubt that it has ever turned a wheel on the street (legally).

Ya, the big ABR on the side of the car was a dead giveaway it was Al's.

I don't remember seeing this car in the past at Mosport, but I could be wrong. Ran pretty good though, could tell he was making up ground from starting near the back. Sounded too quiet though, is this car turbo'd or NA? If it was ported at all its not a big port job or he is running massive mufflers to keep it quiet.

From what i saw of the car, it is very clean. A great example of an RX-7, which is nice since that was the only Mazda at the festival.

I believe it used to have a giant MAZDA on the side when he used to be the GM at the Mazda dealership, but when he left there, I think he changed it to a big ABR instead. You may have seen it before at Mosport in it's old livery.
I know he was at the event this weekend as he was talking about it over the the RX8 club.

As for the engine, it is (was?) a 13B NA peripheral port. So, yeah, you could say it has some big porting.

The peri port and the fact that he winds it up to almost 10,000 rpm an each shift (krikeys!!!!!) means that it is pretty loud. It is far louder than my bridge port car, but I know that he has been working on getting it a bit quieter. Maybe you were on the side away from the exhaust outlet. I have been beside him on track and all you can hear is his exhaust note.

Moving to a Toyota store has really limited the old Scarboro Mazda stuff on the car. I took all references to Scarboro Mazda off my car as well. Man they were good years.........

I must have been on the opposite side to the exhaust cause that car was not very loud at all, almost sounded like a stock engine, but it was definately faster than what a stock NA would do. Either way, it was a very nice car and I loved seeing it there. Made me wish I had an RX-7 again.

a few years back this was one of the loudest cars i'd ever heard (aside from nitro drag insanity) it literally hurt my ears. i was standing like 6 inches from it when it was started up though

Yes it was me lol. I have 2 mufflers in the car, a Racing Beat presilencer and a Borla XR1 at the back. I drove like an *** that day and totally missed the set up with tire pressures etc, thats what happens when you dont drive the car for over a year lol. Depending on where you were standing would depend on the noise factor. With the stock T2 trans, the car is either at 10500rpm or mostly around or under 7000. If you were at the 7000 area your right it is quiet lol. I had a nice off road excursion in the afternoon race at the end of the back straight, it was a combination of way too much tire pressure ( like 8 pounds or so) and driver brain fade lol.

I was on the outside between turns 3 and 4, right about dead center between them. Unfortunately I didn't get to see the afternoon race, had to get home to do other things more important than watch racing.

Anyway, looked like you were running pretty decently out there. The engine sure sounded smooth though, guess i have been away from RX-7s too long lol.
